Poor Jenuall was holding out hope for Donkey Kong to make an appearance :(

And those leakers, what a strawberry floating joke.

PREPARE FOR DISAPOINTMENT, SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS LOW!
My sources says nothing new is coming
A new donkey Kong is going to lead the direct

And so on.

I thought even today the second game back on the N64 was regarded as the best.

Amongst the MP community MP2/3/4 are considered the best. Personally I prefer 3 because the additional items provide a lot more nuance and strategy and 3 has the best boards.

Surely this game will get DLC post launch, more classic boards and mini games would be great

People said that about Super Mario Party.

This could be different though as its based on classic boards etc. so part of the work is already done.

I think I was a bit underwhelmed just because of what Nintendo could do but just don't. But thinking about it, I think there's quite a few good take aways just knowing most of this stuff is the next five months. Knowing that Splatoon 3, the two Pokemon games & Breath of the Wild 2 are around the corner, well I think the E3 direct has whetted my appetite.

Metroid Dread in particular, its my fiancé's favourite series so he's over the moon. It was nice to see more dormant franchises like Metroid, Advance Wars and Warioware get the spotlight. Even Mario Party Superstar looks like a good romp as MP2 was always one of the best entries in the series.

Drumstick wrote:When you start playing with the time allocated to each thing you are living in the land of fantasy. Look at it from the perspective of how many new games were announced. The Smash stuff is of no interest to me but they still unveiled remastered releases of Mario Party, Monkey Ball and Advance Wars in addition to brand new iterations of Metroid and Wario Ware. That's releases in 5 Nintendo franchises.

Then there's Mario + Rabbids which Ubisoft covered, that's a 6th big release. There was DLC for AoC and more footage of a few previously announced games like Mario Golf, MHS2 and BotW2.

I don't see how that isn't at least good no matter how you slice it.

Exactly. There is loads there, people are just dismissing everything they aren't personally interested in - which is fair enough, but you should probably set realistic expectations when you know Nintendo has all these properties across a wide range of genres.

Maybe it's true that Sony have an easier time making their core fans happier because their first party offerings are more homogeneous. They can show off three different third person action adventure games, and fans of third person action adventure games will come away happy with three new announcements, but Nintendo show two minigame collections, a strategy game and a 2D Metroid and there is less crossover in people getting excited for each of them.

Jenuall wrote:The Direct was definitely in "okay" territory for me, like I said before I think only Metroid Dread really excited me, but at the same time I can appreciate that there were lots of things in here that other people were really happy to see, even if they don't interest me personally: Advance Wars, WarioWare etc.

I think this is what people need to realise instead of bemoaning half the direct for being too "niche", that we actually all have our own niche tastes and it is very unlikely you'll ever get a direct tailored exactly to yours. Maybe only Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda are universally considered big announcements. We got an update on a new game for one of those!

Victor Mildew wrote:Not that id buy one, but i thought the zelda game and watch was pretty cool. If it wasn't available on my 3DS already, I'd probably buy it just for links awakening, as I think that's the only release of the original game there's been since it first came out (Its the DX version on the 3ds).

Yeah it's actually kind of cool that it's the original and not DX. I'm assuming it will be a later revision that fixed some of the bugs too, so technically that will be a new version for me to own. If I do get it it will be the fifth version of LA I have bought (GB original, DX, 3DS eshop, Switch remake, and now G&W)

Victor Mildew wrote:I'm annoyed with Mario party, because we bought the switch one (our first MP game) and it was pretty barebones, with only a few boards (and only one was interesting). As such, we didn't play it much, and to see this with loads more stuff in it, but not be offered ass DLC to the previous game, but be a full priced release, means I won't buy it,

To be fair having multiple games per console is pretty standard for Mario Party right? Granted the WiiU only had the one, and DLC wasn't a thing before that with Nintendo, but I don't think it's very surprising (although I can see why it would be annoying).

Breath of the Wild 2! But not shown much after an already long wait
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope! :? Liked the first but I havent been wowed but another, will see what new/differences there are later.
Metroid Dread - Looks pretty good, I like a 2D scrolling game, I like the fact you are being chased and it looks great but nothing else is jumping out at me. Will probably get it but not spuring my load over it like the rest of you
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp - Would have liked a new game but will probably pick this up. Love the design
Life is Strange: True Colors and Life is Strange Remastered Collection - Meh!
Mario Party Superstars - Poo Poohed it at first but looks fun enough, just need friends
WarioWare: Get It Together! - I see the appeal but not for me.
Shin Megami Tensei V - Not played any of the others in the series but did enjoy Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
SUPER MONKEY BALL BANANA MANIA - Was fun back in the day but have no desire to return
CRUIS’N BLAST -
DANGANRONPA DECADENCE - Have most of the games on PS
FATAL FRAME: MAIDEN OF BLACK WATER - Meh
HYRULE WARRIORS: AGE OF CALAMITY EXPANSION PASS - Nope
LEGEND OF ZELDA GAME & WATCH - Great for those interested or collectors

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

The most horrendous showing from Nintendo. I have no idea what they are doing and the 2023 release date for BOTW2 was the real shocker. Don't expect 2022.

Nintendo should just do the honourable thing and pull out of the console business.

I'm a bit more in the Parksey camp, here, though OR makes good arguments about people's niches.

Kazuya for me was a fun reveal and my friend practically combusted from excitement (he mains as Kazuya in Tekken). I also liked the detail, like PS1-era style animations like on his spinning sweep (unless that is how it looks even now?!)

Metroid Dread is good news though I also thought it looked a little bland, visually. Spaceship metals throughout and slightly awkward straight-edged box-like platforms - always tricky in 2.5D. And the way developers often stretch out the backgrounds with volume and depth in these 2.5D games I think often makes them look a bit too sparse compared to the contained, flat lushness you get in 2D. Also the general soundscape used was a bit empty and not the electro-synth beauty of peak Metroid. For me Metroid games are often Nausicaa-opening-scene games, and live/die on their moods and environments (see: Brinstar or Maridia in Super Metroid, or Chozo/Tallon in Prime etc).

But the movement and speed looks great, and I'm still keen and if they start showing lush, overgrown environments or tease any uneasy horror music bangers then I'll eat all my words.

Mario Golf I still can't believe how generic, engine-default the environments and some of the UI is - but it might turn out fun with all that speed golf lark, even if it's nowhere near my interest zone.

Wario Ware is good news, and I hope it goes beyond the routine kind of games shown - with Labo and Ring Fit and the looseness of Mario Maker 2 and whatnot Nintendo has shown what it can do when it tries new things with design and tech. Was funny when simultaneous 2D multiplayer was also touted as a 'novel' feature! Though I appreciate it is for Wario Ware.

Advance Wars I'm in the unkeen-on-art-style camp tbh. Partly because the original pixel-art and presentation is so good and these over-animated bobbing head shots looked like one of those VTuber things. I don't even fancy Nell now! (though I am also 20-years older so...) And the music used was one of my favourite of the original tracks but the sludgy slow guitars in this rendition didn't punch like a GBA :( But! I see what people are saying about the art looking like toy trucks and so on, and often these things grow on me so let's see!

BOTW2 - not the best cut trailer but I'm (obviously) all in for some Skyward Sword sky island skydiving (fingers crossed with gyro a la Skyward Sword!) And Link's longer hair looked cool! And Zelda seems to fall into the pit with her long hair so I guess her short-hair is for the return journey back up from the depths? Anyway was a good enough top-up for now.

I really wanted some Treehouse SS though - I just want Nintendo to confirm they've cut down on Fi stuff and item explanations and so on. Hope they've done the full WW spit-and-polish treatment but not sure...
