looks like gooseberry fool for kids m8

i'd love to have a go on this. Much like a good lego set, i'd like nothing more than to sit and be a kid for a day just building this, but i can't justify the cost for something i'd realistically just use the once

We spent about 2.5 hours this afternoon just dicking around with the RC cars. If you've got kids (and a switch) then this is tremendous. So much content and so many options for creativity.

This was not the Nintendo VR I was expecting... but, hey, you gotta give it a chance. As yet no news / details on the software have been shared. Is it a mistake to link VR with Labo; or will this help keep the cost down?

Looks...interesting. It's a logical first step into VR for Nintendo, the Switch isn't powerful enough to do proper full on VR experiences but something like this is a good fit - will be quite cool to make different versions of the headset to try different experiences. Hopefully at least some of them relate to proper Nintendo franchises rather than just being the bland Wii Sports looking games we've seen so far in Labo.

I'm a little unsure about this as it feels like very tentative steps by Nintendo. They have, through speculation, been linked with VR and this first move seems almost hidden by the Labo link-up. I hate to say it but Labo itself was a (very) brief fad and it's hard to think that this new off-shoot will gain much traction.

Perhaps that's a little negative when we don't yet know much about it... we'll see!

Thinking about it, this is not really "Nintendo VR", it is "Labo VR". Approaching it this way will probably manage expectations; it is a small experiment rather than a whole new platform.

Full details

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit will launch in retail stores with two primary configurations, one that includes all Toy-Con creations and one that includes a smaller selection of projects to get started:
Nintendo Labo: VR Kit: Available at a suggested retail price of $79.99, the complete Nintendo Labo: VR Kit includes the Nintendo Switch software and materials to build all six Toy-Con projects – the Toy-Con VR Goggles, Toy-Con Blaster, Toy-Con Camera, Toy-Con Bird, Toy-Con Wind Pedal and Toy-Con Elephant – as well as a Screen Holder and Safety Cap. It’s a good option for kids and families who want to dive in to the full experience.
Nintendo Labo: VR Kit – Starter Set + Blaster: Available at a suggested retail price of only $39.99, the Starter Set includes the Nintendo Switch software, plus all the components to build the Toy-Con VR Goggles and Toy-Con Blaster, as well as the Screen Holder and Safety Cap. The Starter Set is a great entry point into the world of Nintendo Labo VR.
Players that own the Starter Set can purchase the following optional expansion sets to expand their experience:
Nintendo Labo: VR Kit – Expansion Set 1**: Available at a suggested retail price of $19.99, Expansion Set 1 includes the Toy-Con Elephant and Toy-Con Camera.
Nintendo Labo: VR Kit – Expansion Set 2**: Available at a suggested retail price of $19.99, Expansion Set 2 includes the Toy-Con Wind Pedal and Toy-Con Bird.

Toy-Con blaster......i bloody hope that leads to a new Duck Hunt game with optional Labo VR support

EDIT: Also, surely that camera is going to lead to a new Pokemon Snap? The Pokemon Direct did hint towards more Pokemon surprises on the way!

Labo stuff does tend to be pretty solid once built but I'm not sure I want to suspend my £280 console with some sticky tape, a box and some elastic bands.

I'll probably pick this up for my younger son for his birthday in April, he's been talking a lot about VR recently.

It's the most Nintendo way of doing VR I can think of so it's exactly the kind of thing I expect from them. They were never going to start with a normal headset, simply because the Switch isn't powerful enough to do even basic "full VR".

I can't see it making a big splash. Partly because Labo so far hasn't and partly because it's VR and it's still niche.

Still as an experimental way of them dipping their toes in it's not bad. I'll probably pick up the full set at some point.

The way that bird kit in the bottom left lines up when you use it is....unfortunate :dread:

That what looks like an elephant and Bird accessories look hilarious, must admit quite interested to what it's like.

Hey we may even get that Pokemon Snap sequel with added VR support.

Ah, I love the idea of Labo, and I have the variety pack (still unopened, waiting for kid to get a bit older) but that looks a bit gooseberry fool to me.

Take the scope, for example... my arms are getting tired just looking at that.

For all the talk of a New Switch/Switch XL possibly coming next year, I wouldn't mind if it had exclusive games providing they were VR games.

The unit itself would have to have cameras/sensors/gyro built in of course.
