After a few days to think about it I've cancelled my pre-orders. It's a fantastic idea and it'll do extremely well with kids, but I can't justify the cost and space for something I'm realistically going to stop using after a few days.

I kinda felt that way too, Cheeky. It's a lovely innitiative but - for me - the cost is a bit too much and I can't see the buzz lasting that long. I can still see why some folk are excited about it, though :-).

Anyway, just to highlight Kj's Amazon offer for this new page:

Same here. Great idea, great for kids. But not for me. Pre-order also cancelled.

Let's face it, if this wasn’t made by Nintendo, none of us would have even considered it!

I suspect there is more truth to that than most would like to admit. While I like the idea, I'm willing to bet had anyone else other than Nintendo revealed Labo as their latest project it would have been laughed off the block.

Probably. Nintendo has that ability to wake up the little kid part of my brain in a way nothing else can.

I don't think this is the bad thing you might be suggesting it is? Nintendo has plenty of precedent to make value judgments off, it seems entirely reasonable to be more interested in a product because it is from Nintendo.

Agreed, I'd be more measured about this if it weren't Nintendo, though I think I'd still feel it's an interesting idea for kids.

I think the Nintendo brand carries with it some trust that the product will be high-quality and fun, whereas I'd definitely be more suspicious if it were a new/different company.

Hadn't realised pre-orders were already available for this. Just pre-ordered the Robot kit.

The new videos that have been released for these are incredibly impressive. Nintendo seem to have really executed the idea well.

It’s still not for me but if I was a kid I’d be all over this.

Vids in link:-

Quite a lot more to it than might initially appear. Robot kit looks quite cool too - if you're little!

From that link

Most mysteriously, there's Toy-Con Garage, which you can see from the 3:00 mark below. It allows you to program in your own Nintendo Labo creations and get Joy-Con to interact with your designs:

Interesting.

These sheets of cardboard have no right to be as cool as they are. I love the reading cardboard shapes stuff and I want that little RC bug.

I think those who initially thought this would be some shallow minigames, where the building was the main appeal (that includes me) should watch the latest video.

That bike game has a whole course creator in it, it looks great. I can see that scanning of real life objects to make into terrain getting horribly abused though  All the ways of interacting with the piano are genius. And the toy-con house appears to be full of minigames to play.

Everytime I see more of this, all I can think is how Nintendo are going to make bank on this.

They had a very big second year target for Switch sales this financial year. Labo + Smash + Pokemon is how they hit it.
