If they announce backward compatibility I will definitely be buying on launch. No backward compatibility and launch purchase gets shoved down to 90%. :P

I'm definitely pre-ordering one of these. It'll be the first Home Console I've bought since the Wii after going PC and handheld only.

Cannot wait!

Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.

The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.

Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.

We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.

I don't know if this is good or bad...

I'm sure there'll be a sexy revised version. I loved the look of the DSlite.

Doubt it as it's going to be on cartridges.

I can't see a full disc going into a wee thing like that.

I like the boho chick with the perfect life going to her friend's party on a New York roof garden. That's the kinda life I've dreamed of.

NVIDIA Technology Powers New Home Gaming System, Nintendo Switch

The first thing to know about the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system: it’s really fun to play. With great graphics, loads of game titles and incredible performance, the Nintendo Switch will provide people with many hours of engaging and interactive gaming entertainment.

But creating a device so fun required some serious engineering. The development encompassed 500 man-years of effort across every facet of creating a new gaming platform: algorithms, computer architecture, system design, system software, APIs, game engines and peripherals. They all had to be rethought and redesigned for Nintendo to deliver the best experience for gamers, whether they’re in the living room or on the move.
A Console Architecture for the Living Room and Beyond

This'll be nVidia Tegra, as in smartphones.

I really don't like the mini-controllers idea. Just stick to one control scheme!

Everything else looks pretty neat though.

Yes. If I could have anything from that trailer, it would be that.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

It'll be a custom version of one of the latest Tegra chip, as in high end tablets and set top boxes. Possible it'll include the latest version of Nvidia's graphics tech that isn't available in any graphics cards at the moment too.

This actually looks...good? I mean, I've disliked pretty much everything Nintendo have done since the Wii (not hating, they're just not my sort of games) but this looks like a really nice bit of kit, especially if the transition between screens is as quick as demoed.

This is exactly how I feel, and I really disliked DS, Wii, 3DS and Wii U when unveiled.
