The joycons in the holder are fine but the Pro controller is definitely better and more comfortable. Probably not worth the money if you're happy with the joycons though.

So I'm thinking of jumping on the Switch bandwagon tomorrow, which would be my first console since the 360 near launch (possibly a good omen for Nintendo).

I've always been more of a handheld gamer so was wondering whether the Switch is suited to quick 5 minute blasts while on the bus, in bed before sleep, etc. There's a quick sleep/ resume function right? And the games lend themselves to that style of play? I'm not sure I would ever hook it up to the TV except maybe for MK with mates so the handheld aspect is the real point of interest for me.

Also in practice what are you looking at for battery life, 4 hours? Is the battery replaceable once it gets shanked?

Thx hunnies xoxo

Ultimately depends on the game, but most of the AAA releases (BotW, Mario Odyssey) are very well suited to 5 min blasts. The sleep/quick start function works without any load times (similar to open/closing a DS).

The Pro Controller is a must imo if you're planning to use the TV at all, but of my five games so far (BotW, Odyssey, Doom, Skyrim, Sonic Mania), all of them play just as well, if not better in handheld mode.

Battery life is between 3-5 hours depending on the game, but mine is yet to die on me.

No idea about battery. Doubt anyone has burnt through one yet. Will likely be cheaper to buy a brand new Switch by the time it happens.

Who knows, but they're made of microfibre and are seemingly designed to dull the hard edges of the plastic dock. Seems like a good idea to me.

Are there any caveats to getting a power bank to use with the Switch? I'm looking at ordering this one. The specifications on the manufacturer's site say its output is 5V / 3A, is this enough to increase the battery as you play?

I don't like handheld mode. I prefer to use the stand.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

My wife got me the Switch for Xmas and I was allowed to set it up over the weekend cos our internet is gooseberry fool and it would take, and did take, all day to download the digital version of Super Mario Odyssey to the console. strawberry float me its a nice bit of kit, feels really great, screen looks sharp, I was very impressed. Even if the joy con get lost in my giant hands. Im looking forward to Xmas even more now.

And then I got on the waitlist and got one. I feel nervous and excited.

I'm getting Mario and Rabbids, and Odyssey. What would be the single best game to get my non-game-playing wife interested?

1-2-Switch?

Don't buy 1 2 switch, don't encourage them.

I'd recommend puyo puyo tetris. Women love a puzzle game.

Picross is a good shout as well. Got my GF hammering her way through the two Picross games on 3DS that I have. She'll be stealing my Switch once she's finished them.

Did you know the new Switch Picross game has co-op? That's a fun one to play with the GF.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Where's good to read about videogames nowadays? Used to always go on Eurogamer years ago but the mobile layout of the site now seems dire.

I always used to make Eurogamer my first stop for gaming news but, personally, I got cheesed off with them a few months back when they kept crowbarring political opinions into their gaming news. At the moment I regularly check out Nintendo Life (which is part of the Eurogamer Network but sticks to gaming stuff) and GoNintendo.
