Amazon still have it listed as unavailable which is where we preordered it. Also I’ve noticed that the press release says starting 6th December suggested that it won’t be available every where straight away.

To avoid any Xmas tears, remember there's a note at the bottom saying it is 32gb and so needs a seperate SD card to even play!

The messaging about storage requirements is a bit confusing. I *think* the 32Gb is just for the download version; the physical version still needs a download, too, but I can’t find out how much. Worth noting that the download version will need a micro SD card bigger than 32Gb to ensure that enough space I see available. Both methods require 1Gb of internal (system) storage space, too.

Edit: It appears that the cart version needs 24Gb of card storage. Blimey! This suggests that 2K are only using an 8GB cart for the physical version :fp: .

They did exactly the same with NBA 2K18. They're passing the burden of the extra security cost onto the player.

Its worse with NBA isn't as that needs 5gb internal storage for each save?

I think you’re right, Tomous. I wonder what the price difference for them is between an 8Gb and a 32Gb cart? I recall reading that the cost of an 8Gb card to publishers is about the same as a Blu-ray Disc cost to them.

Yeah, the NBA 5Gb internal storage save seems crazy!

Found this from an analyst:

If a publisher wants to put a game on a 32GB cart on Switch it costs 60% more for them then it would for a 50GB Blu-Ray on PS4/XB1. Your game needs to be less than 8GB (because 8GB carts are cheaper) if you want to make the same margin as PS4/XB1 Blu-Ray disc.

The thing is, Nintendo games usually fit on a 8GB cartridge because they are absolute beasts on optimisation and don't tend to include in their games the things that push up storage size, like voice acting etc.

That doesn't help third parties though, and it does seem like their solution is to maintain their margin by making the consumer provide the storage.

Its a new concept to 3rd parties, every other console has a gooseberry fool load of storage built in so it ins't an issue, Nintendo are being diffcult with their cartridges and so it causes an issue with games that already exist and are being ported.
Potentially new games could be done in a way that doesn't have this issue but it will incur greater dev costs and so probably won't happen.

The long and short of it is that this issue is created by Nintendo being idiots and being backwards again, however because it is Nintendo and they can do no wrong the 3rd parties will take all the gooseberry fool then drop support for the Switch.

Or ya know, not having cartridges, and just downloading.

New system update available (4.1.0) and quite an extensive list of improvements in it.

Nintendo has just released the latest system update for Switch. Version 4.1.0 is now available.

Today’s update includes general system stability improvements. These include the resolution of an issue “that caused motion controls to respond incorrectly when playing games that use the feature”.

Almost, almost, as stable as a PlayStation now.

Are they being that backwards, really? PSP proved optical media wouldn't work in a handheld, and the download option is there for most games if you want.

Of course, what would really help the consumer is if the download option was presented as the cheaper option that it really ought to be. Nintendo aren't the only ones guilty of this, though.

There are other media types, they could also take a hit on the cartridges to make it cheaper for providers etc.

I don't what the other options are but Nintendo chose to do it this way and the 3rd parties have to work with it and it is different to what everyone else does.
Personally I think the internal storage should have been bigger, but that would have increased the cost of the device so they probably kept it low to reduce the price a bit.
It isn't an easy one and I get why they did what they did to an extent, however it is their fault and they should be blamed not the 3rd party of having to use extra space.

That said I have still trying to convince the wife to get me one for my bday in January as I want Mario and out and about Zelda and stuff :D

Thing is they had to go for cartridges because of the handheld nature and there's not a lot they can do about the price being more for the larger sizes other than bite the cost themselves.

What they really should have done is what you alluded to and provided more onboard storage built in from the start.

Got a Switch for my birthday today  at work until 12:30, then going to set it up and play until I go out for a meal in the evening. Buzzing!

Friend code, impressions and pics coming when I get home.

The fact that download versions are either the same price or more expensive than physical copies is absolutely mental. Cut out major costs - raise the price. People shouldn't encourage them.

Just a heads up for anyone after WWE 2k18 on Switch, looks like the physical version is out on the 12th, guessing the digital one is only one coming out tomorrow.

Also, shopto.net have it for preorder for £29.86 with free delivery as I type this. Could be a pricing error (maybe other versions at on sale and they've discounted the Switch too as it seems to be around £49.99 everywhere else) so might be worth sticking an order in quick and crossing fingers if you're after a copy.

https://www.shopto.net/nintendo/switch/SWWW21-wwe-2k18

I'm hoping it'll be good but with no official trailer or screens I'm slightly concerned it might be rubbish but for £30 I'll give it a punt.. the leaked footage from last month (someone got the game card early but there's no download available so hopefully an early unpatched version and not indicative of the final game) looked bad..

Only played a few hours of Rev 1 but I'm enjoying it. Looks nice in handheld mode and it was a game I much preferred on a handheld (Had it originally on 3DS and also got it on PC, which I haven't even touched) will be nice to see how the 2nd game plays on the Switch as again with that I have it on PS4 and it wasn't the best of game performance wise.

The Binding of Isaac also comes with some cool stickers and an instruction booklet, which is a nice touch.

First of all, I’m still surprised at just how tiny the console is despite having seen a few in the flesh. Haven’t tried it in handheld mode yet but it seems like a great size for it.

I’ve set it all up, checked through the menus and had a look around the eShop. I really like the clean and sharp looking UI, although it seems a bit bare. Is there a way of downloading more themes?

I’ve downloaded demos for new Spelunky and Project Octopath, both of which look like a lot of fun. Not sure of the file sizes but they seemed to download pretty quickly.

Going to give Odyssey a go now. So hyped.
