Oxenfree is alright. I didn't get the great praise for it though.

About 15 mins into Oxenfree and this is very much my gooseberry fool.

It's primarily story driven isn't it? Is it the sort of game where the plot, dialogue and voice acting's kinda shite but because it's a video game rather than a film/TV show it gets a pass?

Genuine question. I went back to the Phoenix Wright games fairly recently - which I used to love - and just thought the text was sub-par garbage. And if they made a court room drama show with such dialogue we'd all agree it was pish.

Gone off on a tangent but I am quite curious as to whether it's good or not.

Too early to tell with the story, but the voice acting is brilliant and the dialogue very naturalistic. I've just started to get to the proper plot and it's intriguing if a little derivative. The art style and subject matter (quirky, coming of age stuff) is very much my jam so I'm enjoying it so far.

I've heard it goes in a... different direction but the intro was very Night in the Woods.

Also, the music is real good.

Need a bit of advice. My brother in law bought his kid a switch. They both share it and he wants to buy doom, but his son is only five.

Ideally he would like to have parental controls set so the wee man can’t play doom, which I assume is easy enough, but he also wants to keep the game hidden from the wee man.

Would the icon for doom appear on his profile if it has been played on the switch? If he sees that he’ll want to play it and it’ll cause grief.

Any advice on the best way around this would be ideal.

Sounds more like you're trying to hide purchasing Doom from your wife, Lazy ;)

As for help - you can't hide a game that's on the system, so the only way to avoid the kid seeing it would be to not buy the game.

No way to hide it as far as I know. He could always get the cart version and keep it away from him. But it would still show on the switch as installed.

So it’ll show as installed on all accounts? Seems a bit mad when you can put age restrictions on what games can be played (I think you can do that anyway).

Does he know what doom actually looks and plays like? Maybe get him a mobile version of the original where the blood is literally green and say, here's the game, he'll get bored of it in 10 minutes and stop asking if he doesn't piss his pants ;)

Why not let Bowser explain the parental controls

All i'm thinking now is that i can now piss my son off by randomly switching his switch off from my mobile.

Anyone planning on picking up Celeste? Looks very beautiful and fluid. I'm tempted to wait until it is on sale.

It does look good, Clarkman, although I'll be holding off until I've read a few reviews and the price drops a bit (off the top of my head, I think it's eighteen quid at launch?).

Just gotta smile at this Kirby Star Allies artwork :) . The game looks like being great fun although it is probably one that I'll hold off from until the price drops a little. Are any GRcadians going to look out for it at launch?

I'll be getting both Kirby and Bayonetta 2 at launch. Excited for Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Hyrule Warriors too. Something very exciting about new switch games

I'm a bit further into Oxenfree. I'm still liking it, but I'm also finding it to be a bit of a mishmash of genres. Mild spoilers below

It's obviously trying quite hard to be a bit creepy, but this is clashing badly with the Buffy-speak of the main characters who don't seem to care that they're in mortal danger. I love the dialogue system, it's ability to perfectly simulate the messy, unplanned nature of real dialogue is great, but it's not working in the context the game is providing. At the moment I wish they'd either made a horror game or a coming-of-age game rather than trying to meld the two together.

My buy point would probably be around £15 if the reviews come in at 80%+

Think I’m going to pass on Kirby as I’ll be definitely getting Tropical Freeze and I prefer the look of Yoshi. Kirby has never appealed to me that much in the past. I did get the Wii U entry but that was because I broke my left wrist and you only needed one hand to use the stylus controls.

I'll get Kirby and Yoshi to play with the Missus.
