The main series is a boss rush action RPG with a multiplayer focus and MMO style quest progression.

MH stories is a traditional story driven turned based RPG a bit like pokemon where you tame different monsters to fight alongside.

Other than the general setting and monster designs they are completely different games. I really like both!

I've never had much interest in the Monster Hunter series but Stories 2 looks really interesting! Both me and the housemate I watched the direct with expressed a lot of interest in the game. I love the art style, and I think the game sounds super interesting.
(Although, I don't think we saw any gameplay in the trailer that was shown? Unless I missed something.)

I've ended up with a few monster hunter games and messed about on them but never got properly invested, you've made me think stories may actually be more my sort of thing

As somebody who’d never played a MonHun game proper but likes JRPGs, I found Stories 1 underwhelming. The art style was great but the writing and characters were poor, the battle system was by-the-numbers, and a lot of the monsters felt uninspired without their unique behaviours from the MonHun series (about 50% of the unique monsters were lizard-like and there were a fair few palette swaps). It felt more like MonHun fanservice than anything else.

I understand why OR liked it, but I’d be very careful in assuming that you’d like the Stories games if you’ve never got invested in a proper MonHun.

 10/10

That said I’m hopefully getting a real MonHun come March. Maybe I’ll be able to appreciate Stories better after that! (As long as Nyavirou doesn’t reappear...)

I don't know how far you got in the story but he got better when you found the lab where he was experimented on to give him lightning powers along with a bunch of other felynes. Definitely peak anime mascot though

I actually got to the beach bit after that! I think that was the point where I realised, ‘He’s had his big character moment and he’s still rubbish, I’m not going to like him am I.’

Ah, this post helped me understand what was going on with the two games - thank you!

Today I made my first step towards getting a switch.
Whilst away camping last week, my partner mentioned she liked the look of Ring Fit Adventure. She isn't a gamer at all - I explained I didn't have the right console for it but 'if you're interested I'll look into it'. :o

Bought the game today, will keep an eye out for a suitable console deal - it'll be our Christmas present between us so plenty of time for the console to go out of stock everywhere etc. I figured it wasn't worth getting the console yet since 3 months of the warranty would be used up with it just sitting in its box. :simper:

I picked up Blossom Tales as it was recently on sale and I have really enjoyed it but now I'm near the end I am finding the joy cons sticks a bit limiting when trying to control the Lilly across the conveyers and collapsing floor sections. Does having the d pad on the pro controller help with these sections? Kind of feel like I need just take the plunge and get a pro controller.
