If there isn’t a Direct this month, it means Nintendo don’t have anything new until, I’d say about huly, except maybe Xenoblade DE, for which they could confirm the date with a Twitter trailer. And I’d Ben really surprised if that was the case.

Expecting one Thursday or Wednesday/Thursday next week.

Posting for that precious apostrophe/so that I don’t ignore this thread for some reason.

I’ll share my thoughts on the upcoming drought later.

One thing I don't like about the Switch is that I was browsing the EShop for something new to play last night and finding something good was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

It reminded me of the games section of the Android store on my phone. Pages and pages and pages of gooseberry fool looking mobile games seemingly ported to Switch.
All reduced to about £0.80, or £1.89. Absolute Shovelware.

Outside of the big studio stuff, there's very little quality stuff on there.

The only way I manage to us the eshop is to drop on every Thursday and stick anything interesting released that week on to my wish list. Otherwise it all just gets lost in the noise.

You're better off searching online for some curated lists of indies I think. There are plenty of great games on the store, and I don't think the shovelware issue is actually that bad as I can keep up with the rate of new releases on the store, but I've been doing that since release and differentiating between the good and bad can be difficult. It works both ways - it'd be easy to dismiss all of Qubic Game's output as cheap shovelware for example, but then you'd miss out on games like Akane, Mana Spark, Soul Searching and One Strike.

Yeah, there are plenty of excellent indie games on the eShop although - certainly in recent months - there does seem to have been a big increase in the amount of shovelware titles. Too many developers are taking the "price it at £8 and then sell it for 80p a month later" approach; at first I think lots of people were tempted by the sub-pound prices but there is so much junk out there now that it can resemble a mobile gaming store at times.

I do wonder how the format sales splits are for indie games these days

I'd suspect Switch would still be a high portion, if not the highest, as honestly all the system marketplaces must be so hard to stand out in by this point. But aye, I think early on in the Switch's life you especially did well to get your smaller game on there, so many success stories on that front.

It is just the unfortunate reality of vastly increased competition once a platform grows that considerably, alas. The eshop would benefit from more ways to highlight various games, it seems that part of the reason so many titles go for crazy high discounts is for visibility in the offers section.

I'm so close to ordering a Switch Lite (after having to sell my OG before xmas).

Where am I best to buy from and is the stick drift still a thing?

Breakdowns suggested the sticks are identical in design and some people have reported it as an issue on the lite. It probably won't become more widespread until later in the lite's life because it's an issue that takes time to develop, like we saw with the regular Switch.

The good news is that well known fixes like electrical contact cleaner should still work. The bad news is with a lite, if you do have to send it off for repair you have to send the whole console.

I've found the technique of being so gooseberry fool at games that a bit of drift is irrelevant is the answer.

I've never had stick drift and I've had my Switch for 2 and a half years now. Think you're all just holding it wrong. ;)

I don't have Stick Drift, I get 'oh there's nothing happen with the stick when I move. Oh, wait, now it's fine again. No no, it's now moved way too far compared to the little tap I get the stick to move slightly left'. I always try to avoid using Joycon and they are, for me, utter gooseberry fool. I was playing that vitamin game the other day with the missus, and one mini-game sees you having to move the ship left and right while player two uses a hand to grab green blobby things. Well, quite often the ship would either not move when the stick was used, or it would move way o far so the hand would get hit as it wasn't moving slowly into the correct position or it would move slightly and kinda juddery. I have 2 separate sets of Joy-con and it seems to be an issue with them or the Switch. I have never had an issue with the 3 Pro controllers here though.

I've got two sets of Joy-Cons and a Pro controller, all have been fine. :datass:

I do however get similar problems on my PS4 controller so whilst I've dodged the curse in one form it has still afflicted me in another!

My right Joycon suffered from terrible drift but the contact cleaner spray really worked on it, so thanks to ORKN (pretty sure it was that scamp) for the recommendation!

Electrical contact cleaner kind of works as a solution on my Dual Shock controller but I basically have to use it before every session otherwise the problem comes back. :x
