That is a difficult situation. Two of my nephews used to regularly watch those YouTube vids where guys open loads of FIFA Ultimate Team packs - sometimes spending hundreds of pounds at a time - and, yeah, kids just won't want to play last years edition when their mates have got the latest version. The gambling and repeating the spending process each year feels a bit of a toxic mix, especially when so many children are into the game. Thankfully they've both moved on to different games now.

Of course, my main concern was that they were into playing FIFA rather than PES  .

Yeah my son is way too young for the FUT bullshit, he just plays offline. I'm not throwing money away on loot boxes!

Then bring out an update to change the rosters every year. Yes, they're being blantantly honest about this being the same game, but it gets to the point of why bother? Is it worth it to release a 21, 22, 23, 24, every single year with nothing but a roster change? Why not just one single Switch version with an update every year? Could even be released as a free DLC to give choice to the player of whether they update. Even if it was a small charge, that's got to be better than releasing the same exact game again with nothing but a roster change?

Their whole brand is based around the yearly branding though. What are they going to do, just call it "FIFA Switch" or something? The average mums and dads who don't know anything will end up confused as to why there isn't an up to date version of the game on the shelves when little Timmy asks them to buy it for the first time

I do kinda agree, Rula. I have bought many versions of PES over the years - and a few FIFAs, too - and, thinking back, I feel that many of them contained pretty minor changes; more "change for changes sake" rather than improving the game.

The only problem is that I can imagine EA (and Konami) trying to move to a form of subsciption format rather than the annual one-off purchase... and this can work out far more expensive over time. I could see EA relasing a £7.99 monthly sub that includes "player stat updates, team updates, 500 FIFA coins and an exclusive Messi loan for three weeks!".

Hold on... thinking those kind of ideas... maybe I am a bit evil and should work for EA?!? :o .

Yeah, it's based around yearly branding, but I'd argue the Switch version isn't like regular FIFA. It's a stripped down 'core' version that should really only have been released once. Yeah, it'd be called FIFA Switch, but I do agree that's it's too late for that idea now. EA have already sown the seeds of yearly releases on Switch, so that's how it has to be. I'll settle for a compromise, though. They can keep releasing their legacy editions. Just release a digitial upgrade for those who already own one of the other legacy editions. Give people the choice if they already own a version to just upgrade rather than buying outright once again. That way, no-one gets confused.

Oh, I'm talking specifically for the Switch version. I don't mind if EA make additions to justify a new game, as effort has gone into that. But the Switch version proudly stating it's the exact same game - twice, I might add - yet not giving the option for an upgrade of a previous version feels wrong. If they gave that choice, it'd feel less wrong.

You should pitch that idea to EA's management, though. A subscription for each sports game, giving you the loan of a rare character, a start-up bonus (can't have you recieving free money every month, after all), and roster updates once each year. New modes will obviously not be a part of that subscription service. Those need to be bought separately.

The complete lack of innovation from EA/Fifa for the Switch version is why I’m amazed someone else doesn’t have at least one proper crack at a football game on the Switch, I know PES was rumoured a short while back (but they then said its not in their plans or something) but even then the relative lack of licenses just plays into FIFA’s hands again.

For me Fifa has always been a game that I’d buy every few years, obviously someone who plays a hell of a lot of Fifa would think differently (much like with my attitude to the F1 games, it used to be the case that I bought nearly each of the yearly versions up until 2017), at least this way the small upgrades seen year on year seem like a much bigger upgrade when you get them all at once after a few years.

It is absolutely crazy that Konami haven't released PES on Switch. I'd buy a port of ISS Pro Evolution 2 ffs.

The football in Mario & Sonic Tokyo 2020 is pretty good, probably the second best event after rugby sevens.

I was looking to buy Skyrim on the switch (physical edition) for a Christmas present. It's not cheap/normally priced anywhere. And only a handful of places have it in stock. I thought they'd keep making copies of it as I imagine it'll be a huge seller.

Wish my image sig would work

Anyone after a Satisfye pro grip and case? Selling mine on ebay. Let me know on here if you prefer as I'll avoid PayPal and ebay fees etc. :toot:

Saw it pre-owned for £45 today. It is holding value distressingly well

I just wish Codemasters would spend the few pounds it would take to port SWOS over to the Switch.

I would definitely take a look at PES if it arrived for the Switch although I'd dread to think how short joy-con lifespan would be if I really get into it  .
