Come on now, be realistic. We had an Indies Direct, that's nowhere near what Nintendo fans are waiting for. I'm sure many watched and saw one or two things they liked, but people want to know Nintendo's plans post Animal Crossing. They have nothing dated and only a Wii remake has a 2020 date. It's been over 6 months since the last Direct. This is the quietest Nintendo have been since they revealed the Switch in January 2017.

It's almost like something more important is happening that is taking priority over a strawberry floating trailer for a bunch of games.

We know a fair amount of what's coming for Switch, a lot is just a way out. Bolded those that are 2020 afaik:

Upcoming Nintendo first party

Metroid Prime 4
BOTW 2

Upcoming Nintendo published

Pokemon Sword/Shield expansions
Xenoblade Chronicles
Bravely Default II

Bayonetta 3
Detective Pikachu sequel

Upcoming Switch exclusives

No More Heroes III
Deadly Premonition 2

A bunch of the indies in the indie direct were timed console exclusives too. I've included the switch exclusives above as they have previously appeared in a direct. Maybe the issue is that the last main direct covered a lot of games that have yet to be released? One imagines Nintendo have several games planned to announce in their E3-aligned direct, which presumably is still going to happen.

Apparently Nintendo sold just under 400k Switch's in Japan during the launch week of Animal Crossing. That's more than were sold during the console's launch week back in March 2017 :o .

Edit: And the console's sales to date in Japan have overtaken lifetime sales of the Wii  . 12.7m Wii's were sold versus 12.8m Switch's.

I agree with both Tom and Victor. Nintendo really need some more big (non-port) games to show off in Q2 2020, and I’m sure a Direct was planned to have happened by now, but... priorities.

The majority of people who post in the direct hype thread on Resetera must drive themselves insane as every Wednesday/Thursday comes and passes with no direct announcement with how much they obsess over event the slightest mention of a direct.

I know it’s not ideal for everyone but I’m quite happy with no direct just yet considering I’ve only got around 15 hours into The Witcher 3 (again) and Animal Crossing has not even been out a week yet so plenty of gaming time to be dedicated to those two titles alone. Obviously not ideal for people who’ve nearly finished their list or aren’t interested in any of the indie games or Animal Crossing but considering the Covid-19 pandemic you can’t really blame them for being hesitant to release one.

Some people just love to complain for the sake of it.

They should do a direct and it just be 30 mins of previewing upcoming Animal Crossing events

At this rate, we're not hearing anything until it arrives on our doorstep.

What are all these people desperate for a direct going to do after it takes place?

It will announce some games, the majority of which you won’t be able to buy for a long time. What exactly are people expecting that makes it so vital that it takes place?

That’s a pretty strawberry floating sparse release schedule, none of them even have release dates. Prime is at least another 18 months away and not really a first party title.

Am I right in thinking that at present there are no more new Nintendo games due out this year, that we know about?

It’s sparse but I can’t really thing of many on other platforms that are really sought after coming out this year, bar games for the next gen.

Be nice to see an original Nintendo title perhaps?

All we know for this year is Xenoblade DE, pretty poor considering we are nearly at April and nothing is confirmed.

I do wonder if this is another 2018 situation and they are being quiet because the big releases this year will be ports or remakes.
