Nintendo UK just tweeted to say that a new 2 minute trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury will go live today at 2pm. Kinda weird they are announcing it ahead of time but looking forward to hopefully seeing more of what Bowsers Fury is

What if it's a video of Doug Bowser hosing down some junior staffer?

I think Directs are dead full stop.

Why? Do you think COVID has slowed things to the point where logistically they aren't viable?

FNDDGAMING is working on Currys again, some first party games can be had for £31.99.

I think DML is right but I dont think it is Covid no longer making them viable logistically. Rather, covid has pushed them into making lots of regular, smaller announcements and they've realised the engagement is better. Give titles more of the limelight one week rather than as part of a big information dump.

Time will tell, but it is telling they've started the year by pre-announcing a trailer.

Also, on another note, Bowser's Fury must be substantial if they're hyping a trailer for it this much.

I am not disagreeing, merely wondering why. Makes sense I suppose.

Re: Bowser's Fury; the original Wii U version of Super Mario 3D World was 1.7GB in size. The Switch version with Bowser's Fury added is 5.0GB and whilst it's safe to say the base version of 3D World might be a little bit bigger than its Wii U counterpart; Bowser's Fury should still be quite meaty.

If they’re done with general directs I’d prefer it if they just came out and said so rather than being in a state of limbo about them, I imagine indie/focused directs will still hang around but having a 2 min trailer announced a few hours ahead of release doesn’t seem to imply general directs are still a thing.

This is a pretty substantial file increase, especially when you compare with other Wii U ports:

NSMBU Deluxe is 2.5gb on Switch versus 2.4gb on Wii U
Captain Toad iss 1.4gb versus 1.9gb on Wii U
BOTW iss 13.4gb versus 13gb on Wii U
Pikmin 3 is 6.5gb versus 4.5gb on Wii U (with DLC)
Tropical Freeze is 6.6gb versus 10gb on Wii U
Mario Kart 8 is 6.7gb versus 6.2gb on Wii U (with DLC)

I think the fact it hasn't been given the Deluxe moniker and instead "+" also suggests Nintendo see this as a bigger deal than just adding a few levels. Fingers crossed anyway.

They'll probably keep the E3 Direct....if E3 continues to be a thing.

The information dumps with Directs can be fun, but I quite like the stream of regular updates.

I hope so, man. Browsing on the U shop I saw that Mario 3D World is £19.99; it'll have to be some pretty substantial additions to make the Switch version become attractive at £49.99.

4gb of it is probably just the Wii U emulator.

It also has online for multiplayer mode and 20-30% faster movement. Both of which should in theory improve the package a lot (although maybe not by £30....)

I'm looking forward to playing it again, as it's the Mario I've probably played the least. Only went though it once and didn't get everything in it.

I hope E3 stays around, loads better than the alternative we had last year in my opinion anyway.

I don’t mind the more regular updates but still prefer the directs on the whole, just wish they’d commit one way or the other really.

It’ll have the benefit of being the only version available digitally after Nintendo pull it from the U shop. :shifty:

One thing i hope to see as well with the release of SM3DW is that they patch in those levels they removed back to Captain Toad Switch.

So long, general Directs.

Hoping that Bowser's Fury is a large content pack that attempts something new with the 3D World mechanics. I think there's room for that to happen.

Or it's a 2D platformer using the engine from the 3D World parts of SMM2.
