You gonna try for that 100%, shy guy?

At only 20 hours it'd be disgraceful not to.

I’m almost finished Days Gone on the PS5 so I’m thinking about what ‘big game’ I should start next. As it’s coming up to the summer, I won’t bother with anything on a TV based console so will be looking to play on Switch for the next few months. Looking at my collection I have narrowed it down to the following

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
Dying Light Platinium Edition
The Witcher 3
Monster Hunter Rise
Bioshock

Which one would people recommend over the summer period?

Bioshock is in my top 20 games of all-time so I would recommend that, but I've not played the rest.

Milner, that's a terrific array of games! I've only tried Bioshock and that is great and scary :shifty: .

Oh, and... Pokémon Snap arrives on the N64 Online (Expansion Pass) service next Friday, 24 June. Ideal for taking a few summer photos!

Well Monster Hunter Rise is going to have an active resurgence with the release of Sunbreak so if you want to play any multiplayer that's good timing

Also it's the best game there :datass:

If you've never played Bioshock start with that, because first of all, what's wrong with you and second of all, it's much shorter than the others so you can knock that on the head then crack on with a timesink for the summer.

The Witcher 3 is the best game out of that list for me, although I've not played MonHun so can't really qualify that one.

But yeah, Tom makes a good point - Bioshock is quite a tight experience, might be one to slip in quick (kenneth.jpg) before getting your hands around something more meaty (oohmatron.gif)

TW3 is a beast of a game, absolutely huge (especially with the DLC included) but worth every minute of your time IMO. If you want something that will keep you busy over the summer I think you could do far worse!

Hmmm so sounds like Bioshock is the way to go, then maybe followed by MonHun or TW3. I played a bit of Bioshock back in the 360 days but never put a good amount of time into so I shall rectify that wrong!

Welcome to Rapture, Milner :toot: . I'm guessing that you have the Bioshock Trilogy to play through?

If you don't know much about the story beyond what you dabbled with so far, you're in for a treat

Yep, grabbed it when it was £11 a few months ago, never touched B2 or Infinite at all so they will be brand new experiences. I don’t know anything about the Bioshock story either so yeah that’s going to be a new one practically as well.

I’ve only played 2 of them Milner and out of those The Witcher 3 would definitely be my pick, Xenoblade Chronicles DE is a great game (and if you’ve played XC2/Torna and are planning on getting XC3 anytime soon I’d opt for XC:DE) but TW3 is just that bit better in my opinion, amazing base game with superb DLC that, even if you just go through the main quest with a handful of the side quests I’d imagine you’ll still be looking at 65-75 hours? It’s a huge game but for the most part doesn't actually feel that big apart from one of the areas you visit.

Although sounds like you’re already set on Bioshock!

I'd not been aware of it, but Neon White released yesterday and is getting a really strong reception; 88% on Metacritic after the first five reviews.

Nintendo Life were very enthusiastic:

Part platformer, part first-person shooter, part card game, part social sim. It sounds like a risk of too many cooks in the kitchen, but Neon White has blended them all together perfectly to create a five-star meal.

From its excellent writing, music, and presentation to its intense and satisfying core gameplay, Neon White is one of the most exciting things we’ve played all year, and it’s a game we can't see ourselves putting down for a long time as we try to best our previous times. It successfully brings together elements from apparently disparate genres in new and exciting ways and seems poised to become the next great speedrunning title. It's one that action game fans and Switch owners in general won't want to miss. [9]

First I've ever heard of this. What's it about/like?

Quasi sequel to Solatorobo so if I am remembering opinions correctly maybe not for you

Thought I would follow up on this, I'm now in chapter 7 (of 10 or 11). It's really good :toot:

Basically imagine Valkyria Chronicles with anthropomorphic animal child soldiers and you have the premise. It's arguably more of a tactics game than an RPG as the game is almost completely linear as you progress along a fixed track of events/battles (although with some branching routes to give you a choice of exactly what battles to risk taking on for better rewards).

The battle system then is front-and-centre and fortunately is really good, an ATB style system with a focus on matching weaknesses to delay enemy actions while balancing the varying damage and hit chance of the three main weapon types as well as the various skills of your party members, who can be switched in-and-out of play mid-battle as you constantly alter your approach depending on what you are up against.

It's a real challenge too! Especially with the boss battles the game is technically winnable but wants to force you into losing situations so that you use the Soul Cannon, the game's central gimmick, which permanently kills a party member but executes an ultra powerful attack. Outside of the tutorial (which gets rolled back) I've actually managed to avoid using it so far, but I have come close! I'm keen to see if I can keep everyone alive right through to the end.

It's a gut wrenching prospect because I really do find myself attached to the cast. They are pretty archetypal (you have the leader, the smart one, the aloof one etc.) but then they are children thrown into a war from which the game does not hold back the horrors of. The battle system is tied in closely with the character relationship side of things, played out through your usual dialogue "link events" as characters grow closer in the downtime between battles, and that really helps give the game its balance.

And if Balla reads all of this because of the notification and is wondering, other than presumably being in the same shared universe it really doesn't have any connection to or gameplay similarities with Solatorobo!
