Tokyo Mirage Sessions counts if Xenoblade does, but at this point in the machine’s life I’m not counting ports or remasters unless they’re Link’s Awakening levels of ‘ground up’. So no. The inevitable January Direct will be eagerly anticipated.

Normally a February direct to start their year off though isn’t it? Or is it late January/early February?

I know I’m being a bit hypocritical given what I said above, and I personally would be fine with nothing until April; but for the health of the system, and with only TMS#FE announced for January at this point, I think it’d be good to see one in January to announce that month’s big title.

I do keep forgetting that the Switch is getting Brain Training in December though. Does that still count as big?

The Switch will also have The Outer Worlds coming out at some point next year as well, hopefully we’ll get some news about that before a direct next year though.

They better have someone working on a 2D Metroid

Nintendo don’t seem keen on putting much in Q1. A January Wii U port and Animal Crossing at the end of March sounds about right.

They did a mini Direct in January 2018 and a proper Direct in February 2019. I can see it being February this time round and I’d expect to see an AC Direct in March too.

We’ll also get some 2020 news at The Game Awards.

I’d be very surprised if we don’t see a new Mercurysteam 2D Metroid next year or in 2021. Sakamoto has obviously been working on something the past few years.

I really shouldn’t be even looking at the games potentially coming out early next year, I’m just over 10 hours into The Witcher 3 and I’ve barely scratched the surface of it, then with Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword/Shield and WRC 8 out in the next few weeks I probably won’t be backlog free until well into next year anyway!

Could we see a Direct next month, though? There's obviously not much of a need of one, but there usually has been one - even if it was game-specific - within November. There's little need to be giving much more info on Pokémon - especially not within a Direct, and I can't think of any other game that we'd need a game-specific Direct for. A general Direct in November can get the start of next year (and beyond) a general plan of action in place for people to look into, and maybe even reveal something for early January if such a game is indeed coming (though I doubt it'd be anything other than a port).

Isn’t Tokyo Mirage Sessions the more or less standard January port for next year?

Suppose we could get a direct this year still, probably unlikely outside of a Pokémon focused one though (which I hope they don’t do, it’s been great having nowhere near as much spoiled about the games).

Nintendo have announced or had some showings at The Game Awards the last few years. Bayo 3, Joker in Smash and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 we’re all announced at TGA, guessing we should expect something this year as well.

What is actually planned for release in 2020? I'm so out of the loop at the moment.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Xenoblade, and Animal Crossing I think. So a port, a port, and Animal Crossing.

:shifty:

OK. Nothing for me there but that's probably a good thing (for my wallet). I still have a few games that are already out I'd like to pick up (Link's Awakening, MK8D, Mario Party) and I'm getting Luigi's Mansion 3 for Christmas.

2020... Um... Yeah... Aside from a few multiplats like Gods and Monsters, LEGO Skywalker Saga, and Minecraft Dungeons, there aren't that many known exclusives.

If we get halfway through November and haven't seen any signs of a Direct, I'll give up on hoping for one. But there's definitely a lot they could be showing, maybe, and then leave room for an Animal Crossing focused one in February.
