I’m 100% digital so this works out for me. I’ll get MARIO Maker 2 and Fire Emblem with one voucher and use two more on MUA3, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion.

Recently been playing Celeste and Wargroove, both of which I finally decided to download based on positive reviews and comments.

Celeste is an interesting one. It's clearly a very good game with some excellent level design, plus the feeling you get when you cleanly execute a screen at the umpteenth attempt is great. However despite this I can't say I love it, purely due to the very nature of the trial and error game play and the frustrations that come with it.

Wargroove is exactly as I'd expected, a fantasy Advanced Wars. The one thing that has come as a surprise is the level of challenge with even the early campaign missions posing a challenge. I'm enjoying it though and will probably see this through first before returning to Celeste as I think it's just more my kind of game.

The best way to be.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Now*... these Game Vouchers.

I like the idea; save money on new games / encourages downloading / flexible use etc. It's not exactly a bargain but, hey, if you're gonna download two "AAA" games then this option could save you money. Unless you choose one (or two) of the £40 games rather than the £50 ones. Why even include £40 games in the range? :fp:  . Also, the saving probably isn't going to discourage too many folk from continuing to choose cheaper physical versions.

But... it's still an interesting move and folk who already mainly buy digital could be tempted by the offer. I notice that a few game media sites are talking about the "high cost" of Nintendo's games in the eShop. They're generally priced in line with "AAA" games on the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores i.e. Nintendo's "big" games are priced at £50 whilst Sony and Microsoft's "big" games are priced around £55 (for the "standard" versions). Nintendo's digital games generally aren't more expensive than Sony and Microsoft's; in fact, they're often slightly cheaper. Sure, folk mention the "Switch tax" and it seeems that other publishers do often charge more for the Switch download version; I'm not gonna make excuses for that but sometimes this is due to ports of games that launched earlier on other systems and so the price has since dropped on those formats.

Tl;dr The pricing of download versions of new games sucks on all console formats, not just Nintendo.

*[era]We need to talk about[/era] etc

I would agree that generally the only trend I can see is that all consoles seem to overcharge for their digital stores and that other than a few situations most things launch on the eShop at the same price they did on the other stores. Having been mainly a PC player for the last 10 years it all seems ludicrously expensive!

Also I generally find that by shopping across regions I haven't struggled to pick up the things I want at what feels like a fair price. Mario Maker 2 for example is currently listed at around £43 if you buy it from Sweden, only a few quid saved but still much more palatable than the £49.99 from the UK!

What's the deal with these vouchers? I can't see anything about them on the Nintendo website.

The concise version: Download two games for £84 rather than £100. Click here for the full details, Dan!

In their example are Breath of the Wild and Smash really listed at £59.99 on the store? That's insane.

Cheers Jawa.
Though it seems the discount is only really worth it if you use it to buy Smash and Zelda.
And if you buy Mario Maker that way you don't get the free 12 month online subscription included...

I'm not technically a Mod, but I've deleted some abuse from this thread. I felt a moral obligation to step in.

I believe we all have it in us to choose to be nice: it's not difficult to ignore someone instead of saying mean things. I'll be continuing to delete abuse from this thread. "If you don't have anything nice to say..." and all that.

If you have a problem with this, PM me or make a thread in Feedback. I'll be deleting any in-thread replies to this. (Go back to talking about Nintendo or whatever.)

Yikes, missed that.

But let's talk about Nintendo indeed. Honestly I didn't expect Super Mario Maker 2 to have online co-op / Vs mode, very happy about that!

Yeah, that really surprised me. That was a great direct. The amount of new gooseberry fool they are putting in this is mind-blowing.

My problem with Mario Maker is that I will almost certainly never make anything in it and I'm not sure if just a 2D Mario game is something I really need at this point. But if I can get it with MUA for £84 (and hopefully the associated points back on the purchase) then I'm tempted as maybe my kids will embrace the creative side of it instead.

My bad.

I made the same mistake that Billy did in Gremlins and checked the Switch thread after midnight. Karl made the right call and yes let's just go back to Nintendo chat.

As much as I enjoyed the first Mario Maker, I only made a handful of levels and ended up spending more time enjoying seeing what everyone else did with it. The second one will no doubt be just as good, but I'll leave off buying it this time.

The vouchers are a pretty good idea and I'll probably get them though. I normally try and wait for titles to appear in the sales, but there have been a few times where it's got to release day of a particular game and I've just thought "stuff it" and bought it full price.

This will no doubt be the case with Mario Maker 2, despite what I've said above!

I'm looking for some good 4 player local multiplayer games that are exclusive to Switch, does anyone have any suggestions? Currently have MK 8 and Mario Tennis, will be getting Smash Bros soon and probably Mario Party, what else should I be looking at?

Focusing on exclusives because I have the likes of Overcooked, Rocket League and Towerfall already.
