Wasn't it only first person up until you got the lightsaber?

I'm not sure, Mafro... I'd thought that you could switch between the two views whenever you wanted.

I'm definitely very tempted and it's encouraging to see so many people think it's a good purchase thanks again.

What is with this relationship that Microsoft and Nintendo seem to be having - I have seen a few xbox exclusives on Switch. I don't know how this came about and what we can reasonably speculate from it in terms of other exclusives coming to Switch or vice versa

Aye, fair enough. Anxiety can be a bugger like that.

So after a fair amount of deliberation I decided to take the plunge and buy myself a Nintendo Switch. Went into an actual shop and everything (as opposed to purchasing online) - after the initial self doubt and guilt associated with what is really a selfish, unnecessary purchase and worrying about taking on new hobby I'm very excited to get into this.

I decided to go all in and bought a Switch with pro controller with Zelda BotW, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, and Let it Go pikachu - none of which I've played before. I got a year pass for Nintendo Online to play Nes and Snes gamesand an eshop voucher to purchase Celeste, Cup Head, Hollow Knight, Ori and the blind forest (and there's a really cool game which you all may not have heard of called Gris that I am very interested to play). I definetly want to get Zelda Links Awakening tomorrow too

I'll let you all know how I get on with my neat little new "Nintendo exclusive, cool indie, Nostalgia, Wii U porting machine" - thank you for everyone that was kind enough to give advice :D

Woa!

That's quite the selection there! Good taste.

And yes, I've heard of Gris and it's on my watch list too.

But I think you've got more than enough to be getting on with there already, so interested to know how you get on with it all!

I love this thing

Everything about this just puts you in that headspace of opening a new console when you was a kid it felt much less like an intimidating piece of hardware – something you are buying as an all round entertainment system you on some level feel you should and that you judge for its potential over years (like the xbox one) but it had more of a vibe of a shiny new toy you just want to jump in and enjoy. I love the box art, the cartridges (yes I licked one), the way the units was packed in the box, the clickyness of the joycons, the feel of the controller, the sharpness of display on the screen, being able to play Nintendo games in HD graphics. Also it’s a joy to be able to play a home console outside - I went for a bike ride and played MK8 in a nice isolated spot which was lovely.

Thought I’d play all the games for a bit and decide which ones I want to focus on I started with Mario Odyssey (one should always have Mario as their first game on a new Nintendo machine) – I only played a little this but I think this will be one of my fave games of all time.

Then BotW – the whole thing is just wow! I’ve cleared the first plateau – enjoyed that and took my time it was fun exploring in a contained area (but still bloody big) getting used to the language of the game – combat, cooking, shrines, gathering, weapons that break, adapting to the elements. I really love this game. I’m just going to do loads of exploring. Open up the towers and find my own adventure at my own pace. I want to get Links Awakening tomorrow too imagine playing 2 new Zelda games at the same time

Played MK8 – I’m not very good yet but I love a learning curve.

Then played some NES games which was a treat

I think today was the best gaming day of my life – today was the opposite of productive but it did me the world of good to kind of take a day off from my life I actually feel more positive then I have for a few months. Not one ounce of regret with buying it. Thanks guys

Crumbs, Barnsy, this is a ringing endorsement of the system. Glad to hear that you're enjoying it so much... you sound like you're totally ready to display the Switch Squad logo in your signature :toot: .

This brings me back to launch day of 2017. Opening it up and playing for the first time. Not a care in the world. Just exploring the plateau. I was restricted to handheld mode as I didn't want to set everything up only to have to pack it away again. In fact, I was so busy playing it, I forgot that I needed to pack everything ready to move out of my student accomodation, so when the time came the next day to leave, I was still packing when my ride arrived. Then I was back home, docked it to my TV, and the love of just exploring - now off the plateau - continued. I can't remember if I did actually say anything about it over on SONM, but I want to look and relive those first few days just from reading your own first experiences with it.

Hope to see you enjoying it throughout these next few months. And... I doubt Mario Kart Monday can be revived, but if it ever was, you'd be welcome to join.

If only he'd played it at a roof top party, nothing could have made it better if so :x

Has anyone got experience with preordering from argos? I'm worried Link's Awakening won't arrive tomorrow :(

EDIT: Finally dispatched!

I think we've got an uphill battle to build hype on this one, Rex. I mentioned it yesterday and the response wasn't exactly overwhelming. We'll just have to prove that there are dozens of us - dozensofus.gif - who are excited about it!...

Puzzle Quest is out in the eShop and I've played it! It's lovely; no huge changes from the (brilliant) DS version bar a new tutorial inclusion, but it has all the original levels plush the expansion and some fresh challenges. Being colour-blind, this is one of the few "match three" games that I've ever been able to play; it helps that the four key colours are (for me) just about distinguishable, plus they have symbols and - crucially - there is a "no time limit" option, so I don't have to rush. The RPG elements are great and add meaning to the gameplay. I'm so happy that this has appeared on Switch :toot: .

Puzzle Quest or Goose game or both, that's today's quandary.

Or Sayonara Wild Hearts!

I played the space version of Puzzle Quest back when and really got a lot of mileage out of it, frustrating though it sometimes was. This looks like a proper remaster and I’m keen on it, but it’s going to have to be wishlisted for now...

Joy-con or touch controls can be used, Orange, and either type can be used at any time in handheld mode. I'm playing with touch controls (using a stylus) and it works well.

That's good to know, I'm more likely to get it knowing I can use the buttons

Barnsy just hitting everyone in the feels

Anyway, just about to loud up Grid Autosport and give that a whirl.

Edit, Grid Autosport is bloody amazing! Definitely better in the performance mode rather than graphical mode, looks good in either though but 60fps is better than slightly better graphics in my opinion.
