Yes you don't want to cannibalise sales but there does come a tipping point where the revenue in selling an existing product to a diminishing audience of people who haven't bought it yet gets too low and the value in making a sequel and having the entire hardware base as potential customers again is too hard to overlook.

There has always been one Mario Kart per console, so the argument is less "Mario Kart 8DX is still selling well" (even though it is) and more "Nintendo have a well established precedent for this"

There’s no precedent for when they released a port though. This is slightly different.

A sound argument, and one that would be hard to disagree with, but not the one that was put forward!

Also this argument wasn't just being put forward in relation to MK. ;)

With Splatoon I think the fractured playerbase is something Nintendo genuinely want to avoid. I mean, this is the company that made the entire co-op mode only playable for a few hours a week because they were worried it wouldn't have enough concurrent players otherwise.

I have still never forgiven them

Come on, “a few hours a week” is just a slight exaggeration

I think it’s on every other day rotation.

Got my Switch a couple of days ago. Redownloaded Sonic Mania, Rocket League and Picross S, managed to get my hands on Breath of the Wild.

Need to get a microSD card, then I can redownload Doom (2016), and get the older Doom games if they're still on sale tomorrow.

I'm gonna be getting my first physical Switch game for a while this week. Bring on Rune Factory 4 Special. I've not played a title in the series before but, from reading reviews of the original 3DS title and USA reviews of the Switch version, it seems pretty neat; a kinda mix of the farming, crafting and relationship gameplay seen in Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, but with a wee bit of combat, too.

No idea how I'm gonna fit that style of game in alongside the new AC  :fp: . Anyone here played the game (or an earlier title in the series) before?

I have not played it, but was always really interested in the look of it on 3DS. It seems that the people who like it REALLY like it. Let us know what you make of it.

Played an older one and thought it was great , I did contemplate getting this as well but it wasn't that long ago I got harvest moon for the switch and Animal crossing is coming soon.

My kids aren't really in to games that much, we play some Mario Kart together occasionally and they've dabbled in other bits and bobs but have never really been that fussed by anything. But last night my two eldest asked me if they could play some Mario Odyssey together so I stuck them on it in 2P mode with my daughter controlling Mario and son on Cappy and they had an absolute blast!

It was really amazing watching them play a game that I adored and taking it in a second time through their experience. I put the assist mode on for them as a guide as well and I'm really impressed with how that works and how the 2 player mode in general operates. More games should take the time to implement things like this!

Yeah, Odyssey's 2 player mode is perfect for that kind of situation. I think it's probably a little dull for the Cappy player if you have 2 players of equal experience (although I haven't tried it so can't say for sure) but for introducing a child to their first 3D Mario game, it's perfect.

Yeah I can imagine the Cappy role would be a hard sell for anyone experienced but they're both pretty much novices at 3D stuff so neither felt like what they needed to do was dull. I'm hoping they'll start taking it in turns to swap between Mario and Cappy as they get better at it.

They managed to make it through from the opening at the Cap Kingdom through Cascade and Sand before just making it to the Lake Kingdom which was much better than I thought they would do. I had to help them with a couple of the boss fights but they did pretty well overall!

Just picked up Luigi’s Mansion & Pokemon for a nice £4.00 after trading in some old console games.

Not sure when I’m going to play them though  :fp:

Anyone got Darksiders 2 for the Switch? I’m tempted to pick it up but see a lot of complaints on reviews about a dodgy frame rate. Has that been improved with patches since launch?
