Switch Collection at 2 Years:

Everything from Kirby Star Allies onwards are year two purchases (a substantial increase in quantity, perhaps less so quality). I realise I'm a bit of a dying breed, but I still very much value physical media. My most recent pick up Cosmic Star Heroine came with a gorgeous full colour booklet, very reminiscent of how things used to be when I first started buying Video Games. I have very few eShop games (Undertale, BloodStained, Mercenary Saga Chronicles, Valkyria Chronicles, and WarGroove), but there's so much more stuff I want.

Looking forward to Year Three. For me it will start with Yoshi's Crafted World, and The Caligula Effect: Overdose. But Fire Emblem: Three Houses seems like it'll be the highlight. Love my Switch to bits.

I really must get to Cosmic Star Heroine sometime. Is sad to hear it underperformed on Switch

I didn't know that! Now I'm sad. I'm around 10 hours in and have enjoyed every minute so far. They've managed to keep the narrative fast-paced, and they've been really inventive with some of the set-pieces. Looking forward to finishing it in the next few days.

That’s some absolutely absurd playtime Jazzem.

Since people are showcasing their entire collections, here’s a repurposing of something I did on GNamer: every game I’ve played on my Switch, no matter how complete, rated. (Seriously, some of these got less than an hour’s play. Be warned.)

1-2-Switch
I didn't like Wii Sports as much as most and this is worse.  It's a party game where only two players can play simultaneously, for one.  The marbles bit is impressive, and everyone will find a couple of games they like, but the standard deviation in quality is so high, the mean so low, and the live action bits so bobbins that I couldn't in good conscience recommend it to anyone.  It was fun with friends at the GNamer Meet-Up, but the same could probably be said for Battleships.
(1-)2/10

Celeste
Shite.
9.5/10

Demo. x Machina
I only ended up playing the first mission because I know I'm going to play the finished game, but that reduced some of the hype I had for it.  Some more HD Rumble when you're shootybanging wouldn't go amiss.
:? /10

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
A game that notoriously starts badly, but coming off the back of The Greatest Open-World Game Of All Time, it felt even worse.  That's before hitting the combat system, a clunky tank compared to BotW's fighter jet; or emerging into an open world that's showing its age, to reach a settlement where you can't even hack up chickens without the townsfolk beating the snot out of you.
Not BotW/10

Fast RMX Neo
I was never any good at F-Zero, so I'm still not quite sure why I thought I'd enjoy F-Zero with all the character removed.  It's fast, and pretty... it's just not for me.
5/10

Final Fantasy IX
Thus far I've yet to be grabbed.  I've heard good things about the characters, but Zidane's a berk, Garnet's a generic princess, and Steiner's a literal white knight.  (I would give Vivi All The Hugs, mind.)  The boss battles are nails, the dungeons are funny, and the visuals retain their PS1 roots enough to give me a headache.  I still intend to give it a chance, but... hmm.
IV/X

The Gardens Between
Alright little puzzler that's neither as clever nor as emotional as it seems to think it is.
5/10

Golf Story
Really wants to be the Earthbound of golf games.  It succeeds, up to a point.  Cute and occasionally funny, but lacking a cutting edge to make me keep playing it beyond its initial purchase period.
Par

Guacamelee 2
More of the same!  More thumping combat, more hard-as-nails platforming, more slightly disappointing colour-coded special moves.  Still another worthy indie Metroidvania on a console that's not starved of them.  AND THE MEMES
LUCHAAAAAAAA/LUCHAAAAAAAAAA

Hollow Knight
It's Dark Souls but cuter and a 2D Metroidvania, and thus could be considered, 'Dark Souls tailored to Balla'.  Some frustrations inherent to the genre, like hiding things behind non-obvious breakable walls, can't spoil the tremendous sense of ambience and the wonder of exploration.
8/10

Hyper Light Drifter
Another attempt at making something Souls-esque that appeals to Balla, with a technopunk (is that a thing?) style and being like a 2D Zelda this time.  Fast and fluid, I really like the feel of this.  Keen to play more.
6/10, drifting upwards

Iconoclasts
Love-it-or-hate-it story-focussed Metroidvania-platformer hyphen-inviting game.  I thought the gameplay was bang-average, but some of the set-pieces and the story, which ranges in tone from funny to tear-jerking to batshit, largely made up for it.
7/10

Jackbox Party Pack 3
Yes you need funny friends to enjoy this to its fullest, but Quiplash is the ideal tool to bring out those senses of humour.  The best local multiplayer game on Switch, possibly of all time.
8/10

Jotunn
Apparently the boss fights are meant to be blinding.  I couldn't tell you because I never got that far.  What I got to was the slowest Viking in history wading through a marsh and hacking tree roots.
Jot-one/10

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The only way you could possibly not enjoy this is if you blaze through the campaign, ignoring the beautiful world and natural feel in favour of ticking the objectives off like a check-box list as quickly as possible.  Promise not to do that?  Good, you're in for a treat.
Game of All Time/10

Lumines Remastered
Ever bought a game without reading up about it, and found it's not at all your sort of thing, just because you hoped it would encourage its parents to bring its sister game out of retirement?  Just me?  Just me. :fp:
Not Meteos/10

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Strategy.  Ask somebody who likes strategy.
Bwaaaah/Bwaaaah

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The best racing game there's ever been, now on a better machine with decent battle mode and King Boo.  I have, if I'm honest, forgotten about it a bit since its release: that may just be the nature of the beast, that Mario Karts tend to vanish from my consciousness after I stop playing them regularly in multiplayer.  But... damn it, it's the best Mario Kart there is!
Deluxe

Mario Tennis Aces
It's now closer to being the game it should initially have been, but being unable to pick the number of sets in local multiplayer remains a mind-bogglingly stupid move.  One-player mode is now half-decent.
6/10, 7/10 with tennis-loving friends

The Messenger
Gets good later, apparently.  Unfortunately not good enough initially for that to be worth testing.
Whinger/Ninja

Night in the Woods
A game that I'm sure I'd like if it hadn't been superseded by a whole bunch of games that I love.  Coming of age with a mentally disturbed cat.  Play it if you like weird indie story-focussed titles.
6/10

Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 1
This would have absolutely delighted me as a child.  These days I don't have hours to spend putting together charmingly narrated construction kits, and that's a shame.  I'd like to come back to this one day.  I doubt I will.
Bug and Half a Fishing Rod/10

Octopath Traveler
Brings both the good and the bad of the SNES-era JRPG into the modern era, then paints it up pretty like.  One of the most aesthetically impressive experiences on Switch, let down by lack of user-friendliness and hiding the loose-end-tying-up behind a massive grind-up.
5/8

Okami
Even better now that it doesn't come with 'waggle to attack'.  Still a beautiful adventure, steeped in Japanese culture.  The finest Zelda game I've played that isn't Zelda.
9/10

Overcooked: Special Edition
A great local multiplayer game that just struggles because it's on a console full of them.  Good fun, but stressful.
7/10

Owlboy
Wants to be Zelda.  Isn't Zelda.  Not helped by being played at around the same time as Celeste, but I gave it a good hack and, for a game that contains free flight (one of my favourite mechanics), it's bang-average.
Don't give a hoot

Picross S
A slap in the face to anyone who played the Picross E series on Wii U and wanted something, anything, more. I’d rather be kicked in the testes by Bowser than play this sorry excuse for a cash-grab.
Backwards S/10

Pokémon Let's Go! Eevee
Kanto but cuter.  Not a fan of the catching mechanics, but otherwise it's solid and pretty, removes HMs, and lets you travel by clinging onto Snorlax's belly.
8/10

Rocket League
Tremendous confusing fun in local multiplayer.  I can only imagine how good it is if you play online.
8/10

Severed
A good short dungeon-crawler-cum-slasher with a surreal bent and a surprisingly touching ending.  Your fingers will hate you.
7/10

The Sexy Brutale
I think I've come down on the side of 'arse-pull' rather than 'genius move' regarding the ending.  The game itself is great up until that point, a tense murder mystery featuring some ingenious deaths and excellent dialogue, although marred (significantly) by frame rate issues on Switch.
6/10

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
I tried Shovel Knight on my second console and got on with it about as well as I did on my first console.
[REDACTED to prevent violence against the player]

Snake Pass
A game that requires patience I don't have to enjoy.
Snake Fail

Snipperclips: Cut It Out Together
Cute at release, but we're a few years in and we can be honest now, can't we?  It's no more than okay.  It reminds me of Scribblenauts, in that it seems to have endless possibilities, but that the puzzles you actually solve with those possibilities aren't that fun.
5/10

Splatoon 2 (One-Player)
Hindered by my lack of ability to aim, but I can't say that I found the levels I played inspiring, and that seems to be reflected by others' views as well.  Play the multiplayer, or the original, or the expansion instead.
Whelk/Squid

Steamworld Dig 2
Sod it.  I want to like this game.  I really want to.  But it just.  Doesn't.  Work.  For.  Me.  Maybe it's that most of it's digging through a nondescript mine, maybe it's the time pressure of the lamp for the most part, but it just hasn't stuck.  Sorry chaps, sorry I&F.  I'm hoping for better from Quest.
4-but-feeling-bad-about-it/10

Super Mario Odyssey
The 3D Mario game I thought SM64 was until I went back and replayed it.  Immense in quality and almost perfect.
Game of All Time Bar One/10

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
As an upgrade to the franchise?  Pretty Spartan, aside from the decent one-player mode.  As a compilation of the best fighting game series ever?  A glorious collection of all the best aspects of Smash. and very few of the worst.  Years of playtime right here.
64/70 non-third-party-scum characters

Sushi Striker: the Way of Sushido
A fun puzzler with Pokémon-lite elements, let down by a plot of such intense ludonarrative dissonance that only the term ludonarrative dissonance will serve to describe it.  That gameplay is great though.
7/10

Thimbleweed Park
Another one where I've come down on the side of 'arse-pull'.  Point-n-click in the old style, with very good voice acting and meh everything else.
5/10

Towerfall
Another sufferer from 'Overcooked Syndrome'.  The one time it got some game time around my house, it was a blast.  At the next similar event, we played Smash instead.
7/10

The World Ends With You
Still one of the most innovative JRPGs, let down by the fact that I've played it once already and it being the mobile port.  I'd be all over The World Ends With Two, but I can't get through 1 again I don't think.
5/10 on replaying, 7/10 if it's your first time out, 4/10 if you don't have a stylus

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
More of the same but tighter and prettier.  Nowhere, unfortunately, is that more true than the female Blades' outfits.  That aside, it looks nice, the exploration's grand, the battle system has layers upon layers that the tutorials singularly fail to explain, and Nia is tremendous.  'Don't forget me!'
9/10

Yoku's Island Express
The happiest game I've ever played on Switch, in stark contrast to the other beetle-based Metroidvania.  While it is a great advocate for traditional movement systems in exploration-based games, it's such a delight to play that I do want to keep going.
:toot: /10

Yooka-Laylee
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would thus far.  I'm concerned that won't last, but yep, it's started well.  It's been at 'started well' status since 2017 for me, mind.
7/10

Yoshi's Crafted World Level 1
Adorable.  I have high hopes for this game; hopes that even if the gameplay isn't 8/10 levels, the cuteness will be.

Turok is arriving on the Switch eShop, priced at $20, on 18 March :o .

I'm not totally sure that it will have aged that well :shifty: . I suspect the game will be a port of the recent PC "HD remaster" version.
