Following launch, by July Nintendo had released BOTW, MK8DX, Splatoon 2 and Arms.

Here we have a 3 month period with Mario Maker 2, Fire Emblem, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Daemon x Machina and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. While it perhaps doesn't have something of BOTW's level, that's an impressively varied run of software.

I didn't realise Link's Awakening was so soon.

I'm also in for MUA3, seems like a fun couch co-op game, like a more involved version of the Lego Marvel games. I'm not really interested in the JRPGs though.

I think there’s only the one JRPG in that lot. Depends how heavily DxM leans into that side of things...

Anyway in less than half a year we had SMO, XC2, and Celeste. So no. But it’s looking good, as you’d hope at this stage (see sig).

It's a long period to judge over I know but the opening 9 months for the Switch was incredible and will be hard to top. In that time, amongst a host of other excellent content, they released 3 games which went straight in to the business end of my all time favourites list in BOTW, Odyssey, and XC2.

I'd argue that since then there haven't been too many periods without something solid coming out, the indie scene has really helped with that.

There’s a big summer sale on the eshop starting today. I can practically hear my wallet crying already.

I just know I wont be able to resist picking up some games and I'm still yet to finish Bloodstained, Final Fantasy X/X2, Mana Spark, or Moonlighter.

Good sale, plenty on offer. There's the standard Nintendo 30% off loads (Splatoon, Mario Party, Captain Toad, Ocopath, Castlevania collection, etc.)
https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo ... toad-more/

First things that jumped out to me were the DLCs for Captain Toad (£3.59) and BOTW (£12.59). Really liked the look of Unruly Heroes when it popped up in a Direct a few months ago (gave off a Rayman Legends vibe), so might get that too. Getting Pac-Man CE 2 just to have it on Switch.

Valiant Hearts is great if you haven't played it, and I'd imagine it looks superb on Switch.

Interesting to see Octopath plummet to exactly the same price it was in the last sale :fp:

Picked up Pic-a-Pix deluxe for ~£3.50. That'll keep me going for a while. Barely anything else on my watchlist in the sale, disappointingly

Quite a few things in my watch list on sale but I've only just bought Smoke and Sacrifice. But it's the first time I've seen reductions on Katamari and Baba is You so that makes me wonder if they're not the sort of games to get price cuts. Also, reduction in price of Zelda DLC is super rare so will probably need to buy that.

I'm quite sad to see Baba getting a price cut. It's a marvellous little game and deserves to be played at full price.

Katamari's the only game on my watch list with a price cut, so... we'll see how that plays!

How long is it? I remember it catching my eye in an indie direct but it had slipped my mind until I read you rpost.

Depends how long you stick with it, but you can mostly not worry about the playtime. I stuck with it a little bit and my time is currently at about 20 hours.

A Youtube playthrough I watched had the game fully (as far as I'm aware) finished in about 60 hours.

But it's going to depend a lot on how easy a time you have thinking the way the game wants you to. If you pick up on the puzzle vocabulary quickly and easily it might be beatable in... ~20 hours?
Or it could take you over 100 hours, if you have the patience for it at that kind of pace. Don't let that scare you away, though. It's a fantastic puzzle game and despite giving up on it about 1/4th of the way through I don't regret buying or playing it at all.

Wow, that’s a much longer game than I expected.

Think I’ll definitely give it a go at that price.

Edit: bought it.

It got great reviews and appears to have sold well, surely reaching a wider audience is a good thing?

I still need to get it, but that playtime is actually putting me off...

It is a good thing. I suppose I’d rather it didn’t need it.

You can see the credits in maybe 5-10h?

I looked at some videos of Baba is You.

That is guaranteed to melt my head. It's a really great concept.

Ooh pretty good sale here! Grabbed Alex Kidd which as per usual M2 standards is a lovely rerelease  Even has all the boss rock paper scisssor solutions on one of the border options. Though was hoping Gain Ground, as another Sega Ages release, would also be on sale d'oh

Tempted to get a few others. Most likely Baba is You, especially after the praise on this page :) Also Puyo Champions for £3.99, hmm
