I think that for more ‘large feeling’ ‘cinematic’ games like Dragon Quest XI I prefer a large screen in a dark room, but I’m mostly playing smaller games like UGG, SWH, Link’s Awakening at the moment. They benefit from handheld status.

I do use my Switch portably, but yes most of my Switch time is me sat on the sofa with the TV on in the background. Handheld gaming is just better!

Both I think. When handheld there is less separation between myself and the game. If I move the screen moves with me, and the whole interaction is more tactile in a way. I think that immersive state of focus is easier achieved with close proximity, like I wouldn't read a book on a projector against a wall, even if the text is perfectly readable.

That's a good analagy. I mean it's certainly true for me as well, but i have often wondered why.

I used to play my Switch predominantly in TV mode - back in the days of GRcade's Mario Kart Monday and Rocket League Tuesday sessions! - but I now mainly play in portable mode. I like laying on the sofa, putting in some ear buds and getting engrossed in the game.

For myself it completely depends on what game I’m playing as to whether I lean towards docked or undocked. Games like BoTW, Mario Odyssey for example I probably played around 25% undocked whereas games like Pokémon Let’s Go, Hollow Knight, Celeste I played nearly all of it undocked as it just felt right for that game. I always try a game in both play styles though, just to see how it performs in both.

Good shout, Robbo! I, too, change the playstyle depending upon the game. I would always play Kart or Rocket on the TV... but Let's Go! or Puzzle Quest are just - for me - more suited to handheld action.

There is a rumour going round that Metro Redux will soon appear on Switch; the source being a Spanish games retailer. It could be cool to have this double-pack on the system!

The first two Metro games are fantastic, especially Last Light.

Metro 2033 was also the first FPS game to actually make my fear of heights come out. The end of it is scary as strawberry float

i always have it docked and play it on my tv. I don't ever feel like playing it in handheld.

I think Fisher may just have a sex-wee after finding out this, but there are demos up for Resident Evil 5 and 6 and not a bad pre order price at £20 a pop compared to the £30 they charged for the other games.

I play 100% handheld but I am debating re-starting Astral Chain in TV mode.

With me it's about 80% docked and undocked when I take the child to bed and sit there after the bedtime story playing till she sleeps/having a shite/spot of Mario Kart with one of my Vols on Friday in work.

I play mainly docked for the generally better performance/graphics. Warmed up to handheld play a bit though and have played some games while just lying in bed. Mainly have done it for Three Houses where it's not really worse in any way I care about.
