My eldest daughter is saving up for her own Switch in preparation for Animal Crossing next year. She's due to get Pokemon for her Christmas though and I wasn't sure if she would be able to transfer her save of that over to her new console from mine at all?

Everything is just played off my profile, so I've never really looked into the limitations around transferring saves, but I know that it's come up a few times here so any help would be appreciated :)

She'd need her own account to get a save for one thing, and then a subscription to Switch Online to be able to transfer it. I can't remember if the games support cloud saves, though, which is the only way to transfer saves.

Neither of the Pokémon games released for the Switch have supported cloud saves, no idea why they don’t.

To try and stop save scumming I'm guessing. Though not having save backup on one of your most popular games that also expects people to grind for dozens of hours seems very questionable.

So there's no way to back up saves on Switch apart from cloud saves?

That sounds perfect, thanks. So it'll just be a case of creating a user profile for her ahead of her starting Pokemon and she can just play it through that.

I don’t believe so as all saves are stored to the Switch’s internal memory and not the SD card.

I agree it is very questionable, a load of people will pour hundreds of hours into these games for it to potentially be lost if their Switch breaks. It’s the same with Animal Crossing New Horizons as well, they’ve already come out and said that won’t be supporting cloud saves either which personally is a bit of a kick in the teeth as thats another series where people will easily put hundreds of hours into, perfecting their town and befriending the various animals all for it to potentially be lost if they need their Switch repairing. Bonkers.

If people haven't checked it out it's a gem of a game, a fantastic narrative game that I'm still being surprised by after 3 years with it.

This game has always looked interesting to me. Is the price hike over iOS justified (additional content etc), and is it a game where you would recommend one platform over another (i have an iPad Pro)?

Thanks.

Added this to my watch list based on the earlier comments in the thread. It's now on sale so took a punt, looks lovely and the writing is top notch.

It's because that would mean Game Freak would have to put in a bit of effort. Why try when you can scrape by with the bare minimum?

Yeah that is incredibly dumb. It was fine when the saves were on the cart itself but now, geez not to have any kind of save transfer on those two games is baffling.

Surely they’re not terribly difficult to implement are they? I think every other game on there supports them so not having them for the Pokémon games (and maybe Animal Crossing) is just annoying/odd/lazy.

Yeah at least when it was on the cart you knew what to look after and not lose but now it’s kind of pot luck, just hope your Switch doesn’t need fixing.

What's the best SD card to get for the switch? I'm running low on memory and I really don't want to delete any of my games to make room for new ones

I have the same problem and was looking at getting this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-microS ... OLE&sr=8-5

Officially branded appears identical to me, but is more expensive with less capacity: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSQXA ... 439&sr=8-4

I haven't pulled the trigger yet though!

That 200gb San Disk one is the one I've got. Seems to work fine.

I used that 200GB Sandisk for ages with no problems, but I upgraded to a Samsung Evo 256GB when I found a good deal on it. 30 or so games installed, and still 99GB free.

Probably not worth nearly double the price now, though.

I've also got the 200GB Sandisk card and while it was fine at the time I'm now actually out of space again. Get bigger if you can and future proof the storage space. Great if your a physical game buyer but almost all my games are digital.
