I agree with this, buuuuuut is that saying much? What are the challengers? The NSMB series and the Mario Lands? Of them, the only one I’d say had an outside shot at greatness was SML2.

True, well it’s easily the best of the NSMB series, I would say it’s in the top 3 of 2D Mario platformers

1. SMW
2. SMB3
3. NSMBU

That’s about right, although I never finished SMB3. Still, that just makes me realise (afresh) how actually, I don’t care that much for Mario’s 2D platformers. SMW is grand, but I’d put the likes of Yoshi’s Island, Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Planet Robobot, both recent Donkey Kong Countries, Rayman Legends, and several indie efforts above anything else he’s done.

Super Mario Maker is easily the best 2D Mario game

This is probably my most played of the 2D games, I’ve never really enjoyed the 2D ones as much as the 3D ones. Behind this it’s probably the Mario Bros 3/Super Mario Advance 4 for the GBA. I keep meaning to give Super Mario World a go but never get round to it.

I mentioned SML2! It’s good, but not great, I reckon.

Slightly different kettle of fish. Did they ever get around to putting in slopes? #ycantmarioslide

Wario Land on the gameboy was so good. I played that to death.

I'd rate SML2 above NSMBU. I played it the other week... Well, a deluxe Edition Hack which gave it colour and added Luigi. The only problem with SML2 is its way to easy and way too short.

Wario Land 4 (GBA) is the second best 2D Mario game *behind SMW

This game is really forgotten about. It's still brilliant, I played it a few years ago.

I couldn't get into WL2 though. Still have to play 3.

Warioland: Shake Dimension on Wii was a really solid game as well, wouldn't mind a sequel to that

Shake Dimension might be the best looking Wii game

No idea if anyone else is looking forward to this or not but the first screenshots of Grid Autosport have been shown off today, probably not a fully accurate representation of its looks as I think Twitter and Facebook compress the images quite a bit but it doesn’t look bad graphically at all.

It’s been ages since we last had a Nintendo Direct, I can’t believe they don’t have something big to release between now and Yoshi’s Crafted World

WHy bother announcing new games when they can just pump out ports and people will lap them up like plebs?

Think the last one was in late September? It has been a fair old while since the last one so by that logic we’re probably due one but it wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t get one for a while longer yet. Their first party release schedule is pretty devoid of confirmed dates past Yoshi so sooner or later they will need to give some form of update.
