I get your point that E3 seems to have suffered because of them, especially this year. Perhaps the balance could stand to shift a bit: an E3, two Directs, and then a few game-specific showcases seems like a better way to do it. (And keeping the Nindies thingies, I’m quite happy to pore through those. Sorry.)

Having said that, the disappointing E3 showing has left me craving Directs, and Nintendo has not disappointed. Something of a vicious cycle.

40 strawberry floating minutes. :slol:

Jesus wept.

I like Directs but I think Nintendo's obsession with Smash has gone too far.

I do like Smash, but it peaked with Melee and I got my fill of it then.

I'll be interested to see what they have to pad out 40 minutes with though.

It'll be another Smashing direct.

Seriously though 40 mins does seem a while for a game they seem to have focused on a lot already, good for die hard fans of the series but I won't be tuning in.

This. How long can they stretch this out for? We know what the gameplay is going to be like, we know what it's going to look like, and, give or take a couple, of 'guest' appearances, we know which characters are going to be on the roster.

We know nothing about the single-player modes though. Between that and the remaining characters (for sadly Nintendo has decided to reveal them all before launch), I can definitely see them using up 30 minutes. If they give us a decent SSE-like one-player mode, then I can see them filling 40.

Don’t worry: I’ll detail everything meticulously in this thread, for the people like Devlin who might reluctantly have to miss the Direct. ;)

tbf I'd love it if you meticulously detailed everything because typically the direct threads end up just being:

" :dread: "

"  "

"HOW LONG ON THIS"

"Is my stream lagging?"

"MORE FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS  "

So there's no real point trying to read the thread to catch up on the gossip

You lot don't know you're born!

I remember a time when being a Nintendo fan meant buying magazines and hoping they'd been told something - and a lot of the time, they hadn't, and had to make up the pages with inventive features and good writing. (Or not, in the case of some mags.) There was no internet. You might go months without news on upcoming releases.

Now we're at a point where you're complaining that we're given too much information and content?

I have a suggestion - if you're not interested in the direct then don't post about it. And if you are, there's a thread specifically for directs (I've bumped it) that we can post in. Otherwise the non-direct Switch chat can continue here.

Nintendo have historically been a company with a terrible reputation for giving their fans details. I never thought we'd get to a point where their fans were complaining that they were being too informed!

I think the complaint is the perception that learning details about smash comes at the expense of getting information on other upcoming games

Which I don't think is true in the case of Smash getting it's own direct - as you say people can choose to just not watch it if they have no interest. I think it was true at E3 though, so people complaining about smash now is a reaction to Nintendo's E3 being so smash heavy.

I'd actually appreciate that because I probably won't get time to watch it until Friday evening.

Quick Yoku question, does the Sootling/swing/climbing mechanic ever get not gooseberry fool? Or is it just a case of gittin' gud?

Edit: it feels like I ought to have more control than I actually do, say some way of slowing the swing down or changing direction. It's way to physics'y'.

When you're in contact with the ground you can slow down and climb a bit.

You gotta get good I'm afraid. It is the most fiddly part of the game but doesn't detract enough for me to make it anything less than great still. The time slowdown is helpful at least, when it kicks in.

I’m currently playing Yoku as well and I’m not very far (just got the first chief from the hideout) but I’m not really sure where to go next. The map is so tiny I can barely make out any areas.......is there something that points you in the right direction or is it purely a case of me searching every nook and cranny until I can progress?

This is (one of the reasons) why I love this forum.

This game had passed me by totally for some reason. Looks lovely & charming, though, and I'll definitely be adding it to my list.

Don't forget you can zoom the map in and out using Y. I thought the map icons do a decent job of signposting where to go, certainly it's less aimless than something like Hollow Knight. Best option, head back to the village and go to the post office.
