The little transition you get when you go into a building in Octopath is truly lovely. Almost Paper Mario-esque.

Like I said, I played through through the demo, and I have my issues with the game. I know it's only the demo and I may be proven wrong with the final game, I hope I am, but art direction aside (music is bloody excellent though), it seemed like an average 16 bit JRPG game. Emperor in new clothes as it were.

Hollow Knight is my favourite MV style game in a while. Nails that drip feed of not being sure if you're wandering aimlessly and then stumbling into a new area.

Even a session simple as farming geos to buy runes still feels like progress.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. Coupled with the fantastically desolate atmosphere and the charm of the NPCs you happen upon, exploring genuinely feels like a treat in this and not a chore in the least.

Debating asking for a Switch for my birthday in a fortnight. Is it worth it if I'm not 100% sold on Breath of the Wild - y/n?

Odyssey looks like great fun and I've been having a whale of a time on the original Splatoon - Has the sequel expanded on the local multiplayer much or is it still just one on one balloon fights? (related, StayDead's OP for the Splatoon 2 thread is poor :shifty: )

Only reason I've really been putting off investing is the actual design of the console itself - The dock is a cumbersome way of connecting it to a TV if you're carrying it from place to place, and the kickstand is poor. But I could be holding off for a redesign that doesn't ever come.

Also, is there much in the way of co-op games on there yet? Might nab Overcooked 2 when it's out because it's probably more suited to a handheld...

Better than Axiom Verge?

From what I've played of each. Yes.

It's better purely because: beautiful hand drawn animation > deliberately bad retro throwback visuals.

Octopath Traveller can be had for £34.99 by pre-ordering from Smyths and collecting in-store.

Weird because it's the visuals that are putting me off Hollow Knight and I loved the look of Axiom Verge.

I don't think it's fair for me to say. I got lost in axiom verge and when I went back to it had absolutely no idea where or what I was doing.

That could happen yet with hollow Knight tbh. says more about me than the game I liked axiom verge when I knew what was going on.

I've just downloaded and am about to dive into Hollow Knight so will share some thoughts shortly.

For reference I played through and absolutely loved Axiom Verge a few months back, probably the best MV I've played in years, so it will be interesting to see how HK stacks up!

I loved axiom verge but did get hopelessly lost on several occasions.

I'm really enjoying Hollow Knight, been a while since I've played a MetroidVania type game, not too far currently though but feels like I'm about to take on the first boss (which I quickly got killed by on my first attempt).

Re: Splatoon 2, it hasn’t expanded on the local multiplayer, infact it has ditched it completely.

Unless you have a friend with the Switch and game, as then it unlocks the fun world of 1v1ing all the modes on whatever map you choose. Or 2v1ing, or 2v2ing, or anything up to 4v4ing [depending on how many Switch-Splatoon owning friends you have].

I'm a little biased but I'd say undoubtedly to go for one. Odyssey is amazing, Spaltoon 2 is mainly more of the same. Even if you're not 100% sold on BoTW I'd still reccomend it, superb game in my opinion.

If it's any help they seem to be slowly releasing extra docks (think they have done in Japan and America so far) so you could have multiple docks to use with one Switch so you don't have to dismantle and set up the dock each time. As for the redesign? I'm not sure if it'll happen either, unless it's just an internal one it'd mean they might have to resize the Joycons, release new docks, cases, screen protectors and probably some other items as well. It's not impossible that it might happen but currently it's lookng pretty unlikely to me.

Can't help on the co op games as I very rarely play co op, would mainly just be Mario Kart if I owned it on Switch.

i got shovel knights on 3ds and didn't get it on switch because the switch wasn't out.
