The eternal fight! I'm a bit unsure; undoubtedly the Switch has superior plastics and looks more premium than the rather bulky and plasticky GamePad... but, for me, I still find the GamePad to be more comfortable to hold and use.

And, hey, this gives me a fine opportunity to invite folk to re-visit Epic Rap Battles of GRcade: Wii U versus Switch. Some gangsta rap is the only way to determine the true winner.

For me the Wii U pad is far more comfortable. My hands go to sleep playing the Switch, and i have recently discovered that the problem is actually worse when using the Hori Split controllers (so if anyone wants to buy a cheap pair PM me). I have gone back to the regular joy cons, which seem to have stopped drifting for now.....

All that being said, rest mode on Switch is a massive factor for convenience (both in being able to turn off with relative confidence wherever, but also being able to get straight back in to a game).

And your right Jawa - the plastics on the Wii U gamepad are terrible. It creaks and groans in a disconcerting fashion.

Tweet 3 should have said MPT doesn't exist.
Then the internet would have exploded.

Victor Mildew wrote:I started the wonderful 101 on my Wii U this morning.

The game is great, but the levels go on forever, and as the Wii U doesn't have a rest mode like the switch, it's going to be tough to commit to playing it before work (I just had to quit the level I was in after half an hour as I need to start work in a bit).

Also the gamepad is as gooseberry fool as it ever was. The switch is so much better.

The length of the levels was the reason I gave up on TW101 after two levels. There were other aspects, but that was far and away the main one.

I will continue to defend the cheap-feeling yet immensely comfortable Gamepad until the day I die I can't be bothered any more. The Switch is also fine to hold.

Ngl I think the wii u gamepad is one of my favourite controllers ever, super comfortable to hold/use for long periods compared to both the Switch and Dualshock controllers imo (my main points of comparison), and the analogue sticks are obviously way better than the Switch's tiny super-sensitive ones. Also, even if many games didn't use the screen for much more than inventory/maps I still found it really handy having it there rather than having to pause and dig through menus instead. Admittedly yes it looks/feels slightly cheaper than other controllers, but I think the payoff is that it is way lighter than it looks which is what makes it so good for long play sessions.

To be fair having played a game like splatoon continously for several hours on the gamepad I would almost certainly get cramps doing the same in switch handheld mode.

The joy con grip hopefully less, I'm yet to get a pro controller.

Gamepad is way nicer to hold.

I just can't agree on the gamepad being nice to hold, I find it far too chunk for my hands (hello context). I really like to get my hands around a controller, and I find the Wii U gamepad doesn't let me do that, so I never feel like I'm in proper control with it.

TW101 has pro controller compatibility, but I tried using the stick to draw the shapes and I really struggled, so I need the screen.

Yeah I always found that too, though I have sworn it was improved for the switch. Either that or I did it all in handheld and just forgotten

You'd think a circle would be easy to draw, but nope

I would try and learn how to draw the shapes with the stick. There's knack to it. It's way quicker than drawing them on the screen, and it helps later on.
