Have some levels that aren't zero-g, and your boost doesn't work when you're upside down - so you only manage to go around certain loops if you hit them fast enough, like a rollercoaster.

I think with Nintendo they don't see any of the above as core game mechanics and that's what they mean when they say it needs sonething "new". Like how Mario Kart 8 had the anti-grav gimmick.

Which was barely anything really.

To be honest, I think the "something new" angle is overplayed. The games just don't sell well enough to dedicate one of their internal teams to it. Nintendo have pretty much abandoned all their racing IPs (and they have many) bar Mario Kart.

So I had £25 in my switch wallet burning a hole in my pocket, plus a couple of extra quid via coins. For that I got Yes your Grace, Slay the Spire and Hypnospace Outlaw in the sale, which doesnt seem like a bad little collection for that money.

Started HO, absolutely loving the vibe and gameplay loop thus far and very intruiged to see where things go.

Can't comment on the other two, but Slay the Spire is cracking, good choice.

I picked up Hades the other day. I can see why everyone likes it so much. It's quite hard to put down, I keep wanting to just have one more run. I've not made it too far yet - have made it past Megaera and am gradually making it further in the next area. Getting on best with the shield so far.

Is this game any good? It's on Gamepass but I know next to nothing about it.

Dunno. Just saw the Switch trailer what seems quite some time ago and I liked the look of it.

PC version rated 87 on MetaCritic, other versions slightly lower but all in the 80s.

Yes it's excellent. Fantastic atmosphere but if you don't like crafting games it might not be fir you.

Dive right in ( ;) ) and see if you like it.

I love Hades so much. Fantastic game that I keep returning to even after having put about 100 hours into it.

Have slay the Spire a go and managed to get to the third area on my third try which I was happy about!

I love it when you spot synergies with abilities (one of the best bits of Hades is "breaking" the game by doing this) and managed to semi-stumbke into a deck where I had lots of curse cards, but I had a relic that made me immune to weak anyway and also I had a Power card that when activated would deal 10 damage to every enemy every time I drew a curse or status card which was lovely.

Throw in that card that carries over your block between rounds and that card that deals damage equal to your block and I was laughing for a good chunk of that.

Loveky game can't wait to play more!

Also hypnospace outlaw seems right up my alley too. They really capture that late 90s Internet vibe.

What a trio. I played all of them on Game Pass and thought they were all excellent. Expected great things from HO, but Yes, Your Grace was a really pleasant suprise.

Subnautica had me gripped all night for several weeks when I picked it up in epic games store. Have on PS4
And will probably get back into it simply because the console is more convenient for me.

Played Carrion last night, strawberry floating fantastic if a tad fiddly.
this is such a great console for stocking up on little indie treats between the "big" games that honestly I just can't be arsed playing a lot of the time, although it's great having the choice. Mario doesn't constantly stop and start either which like BOTW is a great design decision.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Decided to cave in and ordered Plants Vs Zombies for £25 with some Ebay vouchers. Looks like a great port and I can't wait to play it.

Anyone played Bastion or Transistor on the Switch? Both are pretty cheap and I fancy something Diablo-esque in handheld mode.

Are they similar to Hades? I'm probably going to get that in the second half of the year, but don't want to burn out on the genre or the developer if they are.

I really liked Bastion, I’ve not played Hades but Bastion is not a run based game but it is an isometric action game. The hook of the game was the narration as you play, it was a cool idea, it’s not a very long game from what I remember but well worth the super cheap price it’s selling for right now.

I got both for 90% off. I really didn't like Bastion: the action was kind of dull and the narrator, the game's big selling point back in the day, got on my nerves more than anything. Transistor was better, with a really nice ambience and good combat. Not much else, mind. I did myself no favours by leaving a big gap between times playing it, meaning I'd forgotten the story by the second time.

I think the consensus is that Hades > Transistor > Bastion, but the latter two are very different.
