Reminds me of the endless Wii HD rumours.

Is it safe to assume we might officially hear something at the end of March about this model? Similar to how they announced the existence of Switch as codename NX during their shareholder meetings. Either way I don't see thing this thing getting released this year but an official reveal might not be far off.

I would expect to hear around May/June if it’s only going into production around that time. They still want to sell the Mario and MH themed Switches they have put/coming out.

No mention in the article about power increases, I hope it’s not just a new screen and a dock that has some oomph in it. I play predominantly handheld so I want a new model that offers improved performance as well as a bigger screen.

These Switch Pro rumours are like the boy who cried wolf, feels like we’ve heard so many from different sources over the years that even when we finally get what could be the true one I won’t believe it

Only couple of games that could sway me is if BoTW 2 and Pokémon Legends have drastically better graphics and performance, if they’re just slightly better I’ll stick with my current/original Switch and wait for the Switch 2 to come out.

This is my thinking, slightly bigger screen is nice but if that’s the only improvement in Handheld mode then I’ll pass. I want the system to have more power so that it runs games as well as docked and that some of third party games that have to reduce graphical details/quality no longer need to do that.

I’ve not found the screen size to be a problem at all when playing handheld, even for when I’ve found myself playing a lot of Breath of The Wild, Skyrim and The Witcher 3 all on the go so even a jump in screen size wouldn't tempt me, even more so if that’s the only major upgrade, a nicer screen. I keep seeing elsewhere about how DLSS could work wonders for the Switch which it might, wouldn’t put it pass Nintendo not to use it though! Not sure exactly how it works but from the sounds of it would give the Switch a lot better graphics without using loads more power?

My understanding of DLSS is that it’s just an AI upscaling feature that makes an image look 4k? I may be totally wrong but it would still be the same games with have just AI forcing them into 4k when you dock the system which is no good for me as I play predominantly handheld.

Bigger, crisper OLED screen would be nice though, the OG vita looked amazing, but if that’s the only upgrade when playing handheld then it’ll be a no from me

Surely if DLSS is going to be such a big thing for the platform going forward (if they’re using it of course), then having it would probably justify it being called a Switch 2 rather than a Super Switch/Switch Pro? Well it sounds to me like this could be seen as an almost generational leap rather than a slightly more powerful Switch.

The DS Lite came out 2 years after the DS
The 2DS came out 2 years after the 3DS
The Switch Lite came out 2 years after the Switch

The DSi came out 4 years after the DS
The New 3DS came out 4 years after the 3DS
This year is 4 years after the Switch

The "Switch Pro" rumours have been persistently around since like year 1, but now I think they finally seem plausible.

I'd much rather wait a few years and have a Switch 2 personally. The current model is brilliant at what it does and I have no interest in something that is basically the same but with a nicer screen.

Give me a Switch 2 that is a real step forward, make it backwards compatible with the games (and accessories) from Switch 1 and watch the sales roll in.

What's with switch game prices man

I'm the complete opposite, despite its much lauded software catalogue I've bought precisely 4 games for my PS4 in the 2 years I've had it and if it weren't for Bloodborne having been so damned fantastic I wouldn't hesitate to say it was a mistake to buy the machine!

Out of curiosity how many games available on PS4 did you opt to get on PC?

If we're talking "exclusives" then it's none so far. If they would have announced it sooner I would have picked up Horizon on PC instead of PS4.

Of course if I didn't have my PC then there would have been plenty of games I'd have picked up on PS4 instead, but I was tempted over to the PS4 because everyone banged on about all the great exclusive games it had but what I have sampled in the time I've had it so far just hasn't justified it for me personally, which is a shame.

Sure sure but what if it had new joy-cons that didn't have stick drift

Mine already don't :datass:

I too would much rather have a proper Switch 2 in 2023 than a Pro model now. Now the next gen consoles have come out, Switch will get left behind even more with third party games, even some indies that are targeting better specs may end up missing Switch and it’s then that have helped keep Switch propped up with the first party droughts

A 720p screen for handheld is absolutely fine. For a screen that size, it's diminishing returns in terms of image quality. If you think 720p looks bad on the current Switch it's likely because most games struggle to even hit that resolution consistently.

For me I'd really like the Switch "Pro" to focus on things like framerates and performance so that games run smoothly and resolution isn't constantly in flux. 4K or fake 4k when docked would be a nice bonus but it means nothing to me if the game is chugging at 20fps. I'd rather have 1080p and 60fps.

Yep framerate is definitely more important for me, if they can produce something that can consistently do 720p60 handheld and 1080p60 docked then I will be happy.

I'd love a bit more horsepower for the older titles like Xenoblade 2.

Bowsers Fury chuggs along at points and that's got really sparse level design going on.

Super Switch would definitely be the best name in my opinion.

This would be the ideal scenario for myself, could have easily seen 2023 as the Switch 2 release year anyway, Switch will be 6 years old by then, they planned support for the standard Switch for 7 to 10 years so this would give a year crossover games before Switch 2 exclusive games start coming out.

So watch Nintendo release something that is nothing like the Switch

Probably because they built it with the 3D World engine that wasn't designed for that type of open world level.
