What's the RRP of the existing membership? I think it's £18, but you can easily get it for £13 through third party sites. So... uh... similar discount would make the extended membership £25. Still seems steep. I know it's far from apples and oranges but I paid £35 for a year of Game Pass Ultimate and it's hard to claim this being anywhere near the value of that.

Mega Drive controller not on there. Nintendo clearly still bitter about being hammered in the European 16-bit war.

Honestly, it seems bad now. But how many tiers can they realistically add? I have a feeling we'll be getting at least one more console (Gamecube!) added to the Expansion Pack after all the N64 games are added, and hopefully future DLCs get added to it - even if just for a year. And hopefully they will give us a discount for the DLCs that are included close to when they expire. That should make it better value.

Maybe I expect too much from them.

If any console gets added it will be GB and GBC. Then you might get one more tier adding GC and GBA for £50 a year

Literally the only time anyone held the controller like this was to play No Mercy.

Anyone remember International Track & Field for the N64? You could tilt the controller a little so you could mash all 4 C buttons and A + B at the same time to improve your speed etc, also the joystick was brutal in that game, remember me and my brothers were having a multiplayer session over the summer holidays and I ended up with a small blister on my palm from trying too hard on the hammer throw

Good times

I don’t think they could realistically add GameCube games without giving the user control over which games they had downloaded or the app would just be too big (context :datass:), the GameBoy family wouldn’t be an issue to start but again, if they had a good variety of GB, GBC and GBA games the app size could quickly become too big as well so would need to be controlled by the user, they need to fit on the standard, 32GB Switch after all.

Discounts on DLC for Switch online subscribers should be a thing anyway in my opinion, much like Game Pass giving discounts to buy games when you’ve subscribed to it.

I'm confused

PS Now and GamePass (although not comparable) are additional subscriptions, right?

You can probably buy any discounted NSO code online and then they are offering pro-rata upgrade fee making what you already pay £15-17 more or whatever it is to access a bunch of games, albeit for one year.

So you pay for PS Plus + PS Now, and XBL + GamePass

This is NSO + basically a gamepass for n64 games, and it's still cheaper than those two put together, because obviously you don't get as much content.

I don't think that's absolutely terrible if it works out at like £2-3 a month to access N64 and MD games with things like Netflix costing £9.99 a month.

It's the Nintendo tax 100% but with the N64 games otherwise being £7-10 each in the past, if you want to play those games for one year and then wrap it up it's not a terrible value proposition. Personally I'm looking forward to just playing N64 games in 60hz HDMI without dicking around with emulators or adding micro console tat to my setup, and having that portable / in bed / whatever. If you want to save £3 a month, use an emulator, buy the cartridge, whatevs.

I was hoping it was going to be £7-10 more per year, it's slightly more than that, but it's not as ridiculous as some are making it out to be imo. It's 2.91 a month.

i don't have any issues with how much they are charging price wise for it, mainly as I know how many hours worth of game time I will get out of the n64 games alone.

An extra $30 / year for a few N64 games is pretty steep, I think.

To be honest I'll probably pay up eventually, but it's a weird decision, as it's clearly overpriced for what it is and I think there would have been a lot more enthusiasm if the price were a little lower.

I'm looking forward to trying paper mario 64 which on cart is over £100 and hopefully they add other stuff like Conker.

And Banjo in 60Hz. Mario Kart 64 is also considerably better in 60Hz as it hits 30fps I believe and that'll support other controllers won't it.

It's £35 for the whole sub here, so while I agree the conversion rate is favourable to us. It's a £5 cheaper price here, $30 extra is £21.83.

Ah, people in the US were saying the upgrade to get the N64 games is an extra +$30 / year.

Let's check it out! Looking up the UK prices, it's £18 / year for the base package or £35 / year for the full package, so +£17 / year for the expansion. In the US it's $20 base, $50 full, so +$30.

+£17 is the same as +$23, so it is kind of "cheaper" here. But that's because £18 for the base is actually $25, and people in the US only pay $20 for the base, so the favourable exchange rate is just a correction for that. The full package is approximately $50 in both currencies.

lol, yeah we're paying a bit more for online on its own so it being that much extra is less of a sting. For me, I'm paying NSO for splatoon etc so considering it as a monthly +£3 for that I can just about justify it. Once I've not really played any of the games, or rinsed them all, I might drop it though.

I can also go halves with my partner so she can play the Animal Crossing DLC (although still hasn't unlocked loads of stuff), so I'm fortunate enough it's easy to justify a £7.50 each upgrade.

Personally I do prefer this to the buy all of your games over and over again on VC model, or buy a game and let's face it, it sucks in 2021 and never play it, alternative of before. But Nintendo could add a lot more content to all the retro console apps they're now obviously going for.

Let's be under no illusion Nintendo are positioned as a luxury brand now and charge what they like. I miss the gamecube days when nobody bought anything so things crashed hard before the console was even out lol. £70 for a perfectly competitive console after not too long, man.

Yeah, I do feel that the strong reaction across the internet has somewhat clouded the content; by how some folk are presenting their arguments it's easy to think that you have to pay thirty wraps for the extra N64 games. For the single-player £34.99 annual subscription cost you get:

> Online play
> NES games
> SNES games
> N64 games
> Mega Drive games
> Animal Crossing DLC
> Offers for subscription members (of which there are very few)

Even so, I won't be paying for this additional option; I'll stick with the standard Online/NES/SNES package at £17.99 and buy the Animal Crossing DLC separately. I'd rather not pay at all as I don't want to subscribe for the virtual console games but I want online play. I wish that Nintendo's online service wasn't so basic and that it were more robust - in terms of tech and functionality it feels pretty weak compared to the service on other consoles.
