Can’t believe it’s 4 years old already, hope we have a good few years left in it as well! :toot:

So Apex Legends launches on Switch on March 9th. It's free to play and you don't need the online sub for it either.

I've been playing since launch and I love it - a rare FPS where raw skill isn't everything and thinking tactically about positioning and disengaging reigns supreme. It's also damn fun to play with the movement being a joy and the character abilities being a lot of fun.

If anyone wants to get into it I'd be very down for showing anyone the ropes!

I held out beyond when I'd said I'd start it so I could do so on this day. There's something great about starting it on the anniversary date. I have put a few of my favourites within the header image this time, as Mask of Mists has a promintent position, along with Summer in Mara.

A demo is available on the eshop for Kung fu Kickball, very fun multiplayer game for up to 4 players and well worth checking out.

This is on my watch list, I'm sold on the concept but couldn't get a grasp on if it actually played well or not from the store page. Should probably take a punt given the price!

They are obviously very different Zelda games! Them both being on Switch is a pretty good argument in favour of the console at least.

ITSMILNER wrote:Damn, the system is almost 4 years old now

What would everyone say were the best indie’s on the system? The Switch is a haven for indie gold these days, Katana Zero is on that springs to mind for me, fantastic action game that was my personal GOTY the year it came out.

4 years today isn't it? Anyway, indies! The following indie games are in my top 25 games on Switch:
Celeste
Untitled Goose Game
A Hat in Time
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin (not sure if indie)
What The Golf?
Undertale / Deltarune
Jackbox Party Pack 7
Murder by Numbers
Overcooked 2
Yoku’s Island Express
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
Hollow Knight
Baba Is You
A Short Hike
Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech
Tangle Tower

Of those, I'm gutted to see that nobody's mentioned Sakuna or What The Golf? yet in this thread, although not surprised. Sakuna is a really nice action adventure-cum-farming sim that is probably divisive, but if you thought the odd jobs and open world added character and pacing to No More Heroes 1 (or just really love rice?) then I'd say it's for you. What The Golf? meanwhile is endlessly inventive and amusing. It's the one game on my list that I'd recommend to basically everyone, especially if you're not a fan of golf.

I feel that bar Mario Odyssey, Arms and BOTW the Switch library is pretty gooseberry fool. But that's me and my high standards I guess.

I kiiiiiiiind of agree. DarkRula has done a pretty good job of putting the major retail titles (apart from ARMS, Splatoon 2, and BD2  ) in the OP, and even without the Wii U ports (I'm not going to bat for them or the practice in general but I've picked up three so far despite owning a Wii U) there's definitely a decent selection there if you're coming to the machine afresh (hi Venom). That said, I've definitely felt the lack of big new game releases in 2018 and 2020. As somebody who's never really owned a Nontendo console I've been able to pick up Ni No Kuni and Tales of Vesperia afresh, at least. More from Nintendo especially would be welcomed in 2021.

Anyway I'd definitely put Xenoblade 2, Smash Ultimate, Fire Emblem Houses, Splatoon 2, Mario Maker 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Animal Crossing above ARMS in the 'big new retail game' stakes. And we have Monster Hunter and No More Heroes coming soon!

I'll be updating that list of threads in the OP soon enough, separating them into years so it doesn't get too crowded of a list.

Celeste, Hollow Knight, Hades is a pretty unbeatable trio, but there are so many I could list. From classic roguelites like Binding of Isaac and Spelunky to experimental dialogue games like Subsurface Circular and Can Androids Pray, and pretty much everything in between.

ITSMILNER wrote:How many games do you all own on Switch? I just had a count and I have 267

Around 240 from a quick estimate, 45 physical. Too many

Terrific work, Rula - great to see the launch of this new thread on such a momentous anniversary!

I think I own about 10 Switch games.

EDIT: Actually it's 13. Not a bad guess.

I've got 58 games in total, not counting Ring Fit Adventure which I'd bought for my sister and then it barely got used (as I knew would be the case). As I've said before, this past year has been a record for my collection, with 20 games across the year compared with the 12, 11, and 15 of the past three. This fifth year already seems to be trying to beat that record, with Mario Golf, Miitopia, the two 26/March releases, the double dip on LEGO Skywalker Saga, Republic Commando and the possible next port, the possible Skyward Sword purchase, and the two Pokémon games (if Legends releases in the first two months). There's more to come, as well, so that's going to be fun.

The OP has been updated with a list that's still incomplete. I've only scoured the first three pages of the games section, so there's some obvious omissions, but I'll be getting more added to it across the next week. Even if most threads are mostly dead.

I just have a 256gb card and just download the ones I am looking to play soon plus multiplayer games I play with the gf. I was thinking about getting a 400gb card but I don’t think it would benefit me much tbh.

Cart based games I have 67 so 200 are digital

Ah! I know that you've been hugely anticipating this game, Rula! You're thinking about getting it on Switch and Xbox?

I have a 400 Gb card as I like to keep everything "available" (even though I never play them, obvs). I'm getting close to the max space now, though, so I'm going to be using that same "juggling" approach.

That sounds to be quite some collection, dude.

Once I finish a game I tend to archive it, some games are so huge especially when updates are included

I buy physical or digital depending which is cheaper, it’s always first party physical as you can save quite a bit compared to what Nintendo charge on the store

The generally smaller size of Switch games works well from both a storage and download perspective. You can store more games before running out space because they are smaller, and if you do need to remove any then they are quicker to download again if you want them back! :toot:

Indeed. Xbox and the Switch. I'm seriously hoping we get some news this month. If people are right in their speculation, and the release date lands on Star Wars Day (this year a Tuesday), then the advertising should be ramping up around now. Even then, an April or May release still needs for more info to release soon.

If a game is over 1GB I am less likely to buy it, moreso as they get bigger than that. The thing that put me off Panzer Dragoon for ages was it being (inexplicably) 7GB. I think Dragon's Dogma is the biggest game I have downloaded which is annoying because it means I don't have it readily accessible. If only they'd done a physical release over here and not just the US (which I haven't found a reasonable import of otherwise I would :( )
