For me I'd really like the Switch "Pro" to focus on things like framerates and performance so that games run smoothly and resolution isn't constantly in flux. 4K or fake 4k when docked would be a nice bonus but it means nothing to me if the game is chugging at 20fps. I'd rather have 1080p and 60fps.

100% agree with this, pixel density on a 7 inch screen at 720p is absolutely fine. 4K is nice but I'd much rather have stable 60fps (1440p would be nice too)

I don't mind about 4k at all, I think that would be a bit extravagant for a handheld. I think hitting 1080p60 consistently on a slightly larger screen would be a fantastic goal for a Switch 2/HD/XL/Pro/whatever. I think the Switch is great and I'm not primarily concerned with graphics, but in games like Xenoblade the choppy framerates and downscaling to, like, 360p (!?) really hurts it sometimes.

I look forward to it being sold out and on ebay for 3x the cost for the first 18 months of release.

Part of the article mentions dev kits going out, surely this confirms more than just a screen upgrade right? The innards of the system have to be upgraded too to warrant a dev kit

This year is 4 years after the Switch

The "Switch Pro" rumours have been persistently around since like year 1, but now I think they finally seem plausible.

Confirmed by my sources.

This is also a major concern, with how hard it still is to get a Series X/S or a PS5 it’s going to be the exact same for a theoretical improved Switch.

I have no idea if dev kits went out when the SoC last got a small upgrade but couldn’t this just be another revision of the original SoC?

1080p/60fps docked, 720p/60fps undocked would be a solid upgrade but definitely not a must buy. With the art style a lot of Nintendo games go for 4K probably isn’t essential, it’d always be nice though.

Hoping to see some reviews of Gnosia soon. As a huge fan of 999 etc, im hoping it's somthing with a similar tone and artistic style.

Switch Pro with no games :datass:

Very in keeping with PS5/Xbox actually. Smart Nintendo.

Come on now, give them their due they've been way ahead of the competition on this one. Nintendo have been releasing machines with no games for years now!

Expect this thing to be primarily for FPS boosts and resolutions, not a Switch 2.

Think more Pro than Super

He's usually pretty reliable.

If it can then run every current game, like BOTW in 4k so it looks like the emulated shots, I'll be interested.

DLSS is great technology, basically indistinguishable from native resolution but higher fps.

Digital Foundry did a video on the next hardware revision having DLSS a while ago

I wonder if it will have some kind of ‘Boost mode’ where games will automatically run better without being patched?

Age of Calamity goes down to single frames when it's busy. The next switch needs much more power, boosted online and joy cons that don't break.

Prediction - next switch has first joy con drift reported within first month.

Wish my image sig would work

Tbf the Joycons likely won’t change past what we have now. It’s possible we might get a batch that has a fix hopefully but we’ll have to see

I have held off playing games like AoC and Xenoblade as I heard they don’t run great handheld so this will be great news once confirmed.

DLSS is a fantastic piece of technology and if they can get that into a new Switch then it would be very helpful, but it's not a switch that you can just flick on to make all games run better - there would need to be a certain amount of work to update content to take advantage of it.

I played both Xenoblade games almost exclusively handheld and they were fine IMO. I'd happily take a version of the system that played them a bit better but there's nothing wrong with them as they are I don't think.

I just think that firstly, if they make use of DLSS and secondly, it has a remarkable enhancement for the majority of games then it’d make much more sense for a Switch 2 rather than just a enhanced one? Or won’t the jump be as big as a lot of people on a popular gaming forum seem to think?
