Is mario kart 8 on the switch compatible with the wii u version? I'd love to play some of you guys online but I only have the one on wii u.

They made a few changes to the mechanics such as triple-tier boost and the double items, so even if they had wanted to, those changes would have meant they couldn't. And the Switch version having other exclusive stuff such as a different battle mode and characters meaning they wouldn't be compatibile anyway. It's still good fun, and I am thinking of trying to get people together for another round of it (been a long time since the last), so if it can be found cheap, I'd say go for it and join us.

Speaking of Mario Kart...
I still hope a new game is coming soon, but there's one thing counter to that happening next year. Live: Home Circuit is a thing and released three years after 8 Deluxe (I know trusting patterns is pointless, but it's held true for the last decade and a half), which kind of makes it seem it's being treated as a main release even if it's main hook was racing around your own home instead. That means 2023 for the next one if the pattern still holds. Again, I'm hoping a new one is coming next year, but it would be the second half if it does. Why would I hope for such?

Refinement and reinvention. Breath of the Wild was something new, something big. Mario Odyssey could be seen as the same thing. There was a lot of new stuff released in 2017. Mario Kart got nothing but a port. A refinement of 8. 2022 looks to be treating us to big hitters again, but they're all refinements. Whether Odyssey or Bowser's Fury, the next Mario is more than likely building off something we've seen since 2017. Same with Breath of the Wild's sequel. It's refining the gameplay. If a Metroid Prime remake does happen, that's again a refinement. But Mario Kart? Home Circuit wasn't even made in-house. While working on other stuff, they've had the chance to think of how to reinvent the series. If they want to go ahead and do so.

What if one of the big games for next year is this reinvention of Mario Kart? I'd love to see it, as I'm sure many others would. It's more likely going to be 2023 even if it is a reinvention, however. Whatever is coming for next year, it will be a big hyped year like 2017 was, for sure.

The co-producer of the Super Mario movie has confirmed that Chris Pratt won't be replicating Mario's thick Italian accent.

After being approached by a reporter for toofab at LAX airport, Illumination co-founder and CEO Chris Meledandri was asked how Chris Pratt was going to pull off Mario's voice.

"All I can tell you is the voice that he's doing for us and Mario is phenomenal," Meledandri replied. "I can't wait for people to hear it."

As for how much Pratt is going to lean into Martinet’s thick Italian accent, Meledandri stated that Pratt wouldn’t be adopting the same accent, but that the reason for this would be addressed in the film.

“We cover it in the movie,” he explained. “So you’ll see that we definitely nod to that, but that’s not the tenor of the performance throughout the film.”
