I thought that was only if it was in warranty, which runs out after a year or two? Might be an EU ruling too.

I'm in Japan, and apparently it's about ¥3000 to repair one. So now with the right SR button going, that's going to be ¥3000 twice, so I might as well get a new pair.

It's a bloody swizz and Nintendo need to be held account for the decreasing build quality of their stuff, rather than being seen like a kind elderly Swiss toymaker hand-crafting their consoles with such care and attention. Their stuff is increasingly cheap and plasticky feeling, increasingly less durable and increasingly gooseberry fool.

It’s really bad how often the joycon’s seem to drift and just outright not work properly. I’m guessing it’s not something that’s an easy fix? I have ordered a set of the Zelda Joycon but I’m hesitant keeping the order for the fact they will likely drift within a few months.

My left joycon has intermittent drift which I can mitigate with contact cleaner.

My right joycon, however, is a bit of a state. The stick is fine, but two of the screws that hold the thing together have at some point fallen out, so the casing is loose. This has led to me trying to superglue them together, which worked well initially but they've come loose again. It doesn't impact the control I have over my game, but it's bloody irritating.

I have no idea how, but I've managed to own my Switch for 3 years without a hint of joycon drift.

While I feel I’ve been very lucky with my joycons only drifting a couple of times (then sorted by some contact cleaner) it does put me off buying a new pair till my first lot are properly knackered (I’d give replacing the sticks myself first too), I don’t feel I can complain too much really, 3 and a half years roughly and only the bit of drift to complain about.

I definitely noticed a negative difference with them when I moved my router into the living room where the Switch is. The right one drops connection at points. Usually at the worst possible times.

I don't have any stick drift. The left one did a bit while I was playing Xenoblade DE, but I calibrated it and it was fine after.

I've still had zero drift on any of my four joy-cons. The oldest pair are nearly 4 years old now. :datass:

Parksey wrote:Do the new ones still have this problem?

I've had left joycon drift for a while now, mainly mitigating it by using the Pro controller when docked, and playing indie stuff in handheld with the d-pad.

But now my right joycon has a faulty SR button meaning it can't be connected horizontally for four player.

I could send them off for repair but it'll probably cost close to a new pair. But they are pretty expensive so it would be annoying if the same fault develops eventually.

The build quality on the Switch is pretty bad, all in all, and it's somewhere where Nintendo have started to cut corners, given that they once made a Gameboy they survived an explosion.

You can replace the board that has the LEDs and SL/SR buttons on it really easily, I did one of mine a while back and it was quick, cheap and simple to do:

Ordered from here in case anyone is interested in doing something similar: http://www.replacebase.co.uk

Just to follow up on this. The part arrived super quick, here it is:

I followed a guide on iFixit for how to disassemble the controller, although in reality it was all fairly straightforward as long as you have the correct bits for a mini screwdriver (Nintendo like to use those "tri" screws to prevent access to most of their stuff)

Whipped the old one out and slotted the new one in and now everything is playing nicely again! All in all it took about 15 minutes and the part was only a few quid so I'm feeling chuffed! :toot:

Doom/Doom 2/Doom 3 up on Limited Run Games, really hope Doom Eternal will be on there in the future although I don’t hold much hope for that.

I had Left stick drift again just yesterday :( Probably the ?5th or so time I've used the WD-40 Contact, which admittedly works very well and quickly but still...

And I too am tempted by the Skyward Sword Joy-Cons, mainly because I love Skyward Sword and not because I like the design much (which I don't) :?:

A new sale starts tomorrow with a focus on Multiplayer games, stuff like Splatoon 2, Diablo 3 and Super Mario Party will be part of the sale

Thanks for the heads up - would be nice if the Diablo discount brought it to less than £20, but I'm not hopeful.

For anyone interested, I've published two first impressions articles to my site giving my thoughts on two of the big games that launched last Friday. Take a read of what I think of both Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town and Monster Hunter Rise. Spoiler alert: they're both great.

Really tempted to pick these shells up and mod one of my joycon pairs. I think leaving the black dpad buttons in on the left one would make them look amazing
