This surprises me - these two games are nothing alike. SPM was perhaps the most disappointing game I've ever played. It abandoned all of TTYD's strengths for far weaker concepts and seemed entirely devoid of character.

Whilst it was different I still really enjoyed SPM, it was a great game in its own right that I wonder if people would have liked more had it not used the Paper Mario name?

Yes, good point, Game Pass also has a cheaper tier for those who don’t want Xbox Live. But if you want these N64 and MD games, you have to pay for Nintendo’s online service, even if you don’t want it.

EA Play is included in the regular monthly fee for PC Game Pass FWIW.

Yes, good point, Game Pass also has a cheaper tier for those who don’t want Xbox Live. But if you want these N64 and MD games, you have to pay for Nintendo’s online service, even if you don’t want it.

So what you're saying is that both services have different priced tiers with different features. But when Nintendo do it, it's bad?

I'm assuming what he's saying here is you can buy game pass without buying the online service, whereas with Nintendo you have to buy the online service.

Regardless, Microsoft provide access to new/recent games, updated every month, whereas Nintendo is providing access to 20-30 year old games, most of which have been released and available multiple times in the past across multiple generations, and most likely won't update as frequently.

OK, I forgot to mention that Ultimate is required, but the point is that if you were already on that, they added all of EA Play for no extra cost. Compare that to what Nintendo are adding, and charging extra for.

And my other point is that I’d probably pay a reasonable fee to play these N64 and MD games, but it looks like I’d have to buy a tier with other stuff I don’t want.

You can buy each of those services separately. If you want all three, there’s a bundle that saves you money.

It’s not that when Nintendo do it, it's bad. It’s that when Nintendo do it, they do it badly.

Depends on what they charge I guess, if they add the expansion pack for £5 more that’s still £22.99 a year which is a lot cheaper that GPU (granted you are not getting new games but you are getting new features in some games)

I mean things like online play in MK64, I don’t think anything else has been confirmed

Emulators have had online play for decades so it's not exactly a "new feature", but it's still nice that they're including it I guess

I just looked it up and an article said it got confirmed in a press-release after the direct, so blame them! (I guess they meant confirmed it for MK64 specifically?)
