It was probably disabling or removing something reliant on an online service that isn't available any more.

It's astounding to think that the Wii U is now in it's ninth year! There are rumours that GR will become a dedicated U forum to celebrate the decade in November 2022!

It was probably disabling or removing something reliant on an online service that isn't available any more.

Found on Twitter that it was an SSL update so probably something to do with some webapp stuff / expired SSL cert keys, or the browser and that's it.

And anyone was expecting something drastic? lol

Homebrew people are already picking it apart at what seems like assembly level, they are free to waste their time (don't mean to degrade the reverse engineering scebe at all but, honestly, I don't expect them to find anything noteworthy).

Of course, while this was happening I had to explain to my PA who I asked to remind me to get on the Wii Fit before they left (need more excercise see...) what the strawberry float a Wii U is. After a mini lecture about the name screw up, that mostly explains why nobody know's what it is (but will recognise Wii Fit), I explained it's backwards compatible with Wii, but isn't a Wii, it was a whole new console with Xbox 360 kinda tier graphics etc etc :fp:

I tried comparing it to a Switch and they didn't know what that was either  Goes to show how recognisable the Wii brand really was and Nintendo went and stuffed it.

Guess it's OK now because the Switch is doing so well, but not quite the bargain the Wii U was if you nabbed one of the later bundles

I will remain defiantly in Wii U/3DS era for eternity!!

It's 2021 and the console has more "stability" than ever :toot: .

And in case anyone who uses Haxchi/CBHC its safe to update. I uninstalled CBHC, updated and installed it again and all is fine.

Would I need to uninstall everything first or can it just update?

I uninstalled to be on the safe side and reinstalled, took a couple of minutes so was fairly quick (Oo-er) but later found out via Reddit you can update without removing anything.

As well as Nintendo ceasing sales of Mario All-Stars and closing down Mario 35 on 31 March, I only just realised that they're also closing down Super Mario Maker on the Wii U on the same day.

Hurrumph.

Anyway... a creator called Ultra Dolphin Revolution has just released "The Last Levels" - 32 levels to play through before the servers close. Check out the level codes by clicking here.

I actually fired up my Wii U the other day, just to grab the firmware patch but I do have a couple of Wii U games I havent touched yet. Gamestop had a 4 for €20 promotion on preowned games a while back and I picked up some good stuff there. Might finally play Watchdaogs they way its supposed to be played. :datass:

I think bum fights are seen as distasteful nowadays.

Dig Dug wrote:Been thinking recently, other than the Wii U what other systems currently allow you to officially obtain emulated games for the likes of the pc engine pc engine and master system?

I can’t think of any system that does atm other than the odd release like castlevania rondo of blood on PS4.

There are a few PC Engine games on PS3, but only on the Japanese store, I think. I got Salamander, but I think there wasn’t much else that I didn’t already have on Wii/Wii U.

As far as Master System games go, aside from Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star on Switch, there are only the odd games in SEGA Ages compilations in Japan for PS2- Phantasy Star, Space Harrier, Wonder Boy, etc. Nothing like a comprehensive collection by any means.

Question, can I still buy GBA games on the Wii U eshop? I’m bored of waiting for Nintendo to bring GBA games to Switch so tempted to grab some from the Wii U eshop if it’s still alive

Yeah you can, or at least the eShop is still running and allows browsing and I get as far as the purchase screen, should allow you to actually purchase.

Cool, think I might grab the GBA Metroid in that case as it doesn’t look like Nintendo are going to bother putting them on Switch anytime soon

This is a pretty good vid, delivering a potted history of the U and covering most of the key events and games. It runs for nearly an hour and is an enjoyable watch.

Three thoughts on my part:

> Man there were some good titles released in 2014 and 2015; even whilst the system wasn't selling well!
> Looking back, amiibo have been pretty disappointing. Great models but weak and inconsistent game involvement; for me, they've never stood up to Skylanders game use.

I actually tried to buy Zero Mission the other day, but I wasn't able to pay for it/add funds using my debit card. Apparently they shut this functionaliy down in 2019, but maybe eshop cards still work?

I believe that, if you have linked your NNID / Nintendo Account across your systems (i.e. Switch and U/3DS), then your account balance can be shared across the systems. This means that you could load credit onto your Switch (i.e. through an eShop card or digital code) and make purchases on your U/3DS, too.

Cheers man I'll look into that

Its so weird that they made the "toys" and forgot to make the "to life" part of it. But this is Nintendo, give a few things insane attention to detail then half ass the rest.
