I don’t think Pikmin will ever be better than 3, simply because of how optimal the gamepad/Wii remote control scheme was for a Pikmin game.

Absolutely! That Remote / Nunchuk / Gamepad combo just worked so well  .

I keep thinking about that and how good it could be for console RTS games, then I remember noone bought a Wii U so no other game tried that control scheme. :(

Since people are posting, it's possible that it may not be possible to add funds via debit/credit card (exact amount or fixed amount) after 1 september or some other time that month, due to some changes in the way card details are processed over the web so, if you want to pick up anything on the Wii U eShop, it's worth bearing that in mind.

Myself I still check fairly regularly for bargains, picked up some great indie games. This might affect the 3DS too, which is pretty gooseberry fool.

Thanks for the heads up.

I feel bad for the Wii U. It's nothing amazing, but it could/did run a lot of what the switch does but it didn't get most of it.

The Switch is basically a better Wii U controller in concept with detachable joycons instead of the L/R of the screen (the prototype for the wii u was literally a screen with two Wii remotes taped to it), and Nintendo tried to take the dual screen concept to home console. Especially as far as playing games around the house. The fact that it runs perfectly with no lag over the 5Ghz Wifi connection is pretty amazing.

No-one does this but it is actually possible to play multiplayer Wii and Wii U games just on the gamepad with Wii Remotes - it includes the sensor bar at the top.

That said, the dual screen concept is lost, which was sometimes useful for maps, item selection etc. Although the only games to really do that were Zelda remasters etc rather than just having two 3D views. If the dual screen handhelds are phased out too that'll be the end of that particular innovation. I like interacting with a second screen via touch, it does add something.

I honestly miss the asymmetrical multiplayer that the gamepad made possible. Many a tear was shed during Mario Chase.

I've just had a look on the Wii U shop thanks to you Gecko to have a look at whats there. Its sllooooowww to use, but so much mkre charming than the barebones switch offering.

The thing that annoys me though, is the virtual console selection is excellent on there, so many games I'd want to play, but I'm not buying them for a dead system. Make them available on the switch ffs :fp:

Also, how would one go about installing n64 wads on the Wii U menu rather than the vWii side. Asking for a friend :shifty:

My god, the system menu loading times :dread:

I fancy playing TW101 (I bought it years ago but never played it).

Wait ages for the shop to load. Ages for the sub menus to load. Finally get to my download list, wait for the list to populate. I need to free up 12 gig for downloading. Press the data screen prompt. Loaaaadiiing. Go in to old data and delete things. Looooooaaading screens. Finally free up 12 gig. Back to the shop. I now have stubble. Get the download going. It says it's going to take two hours (presumably how long the menu will take to pop up). I decide to see if background downloads are on.

Press the home screen button.

It finally loads.

I don't think this will impact too many U owners but, just in case, Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are being removed from the Wii U Shop on 18 September. Better get sorted out quickly if you wanted to purchase them!

Seems a bit strange to remove them... the Nintendo web page gives no reason why, but I'd guess it is to give the Switch versions an open field.

Had some time to kill yesterday so I popped into a Gamestop, usually I just laugh at the insane prices and roll my eyes ant some funko pops before getting on with my day but they currently have a 4 for €20 promotion on last gen games. Its mostly Fifa and Wii carnival games and most things are in generic boxes with no sleeves but I managed to find 4 Wii U games worht picking up: Watchdogs, Arkham Origins, Bayonetta and Devils Third. Originally I had Arkham City instead of Devils Third but they didnt have that one in the shop after all so I said to give me Devils Thrid, turns out Devils Third is a brand new sealed copy of the game, not a preowned one. Overall quite happy with the haul and a nice excuse to fire up the old Wii U again and give them a go.

People say the Switch OS is barren as strawberry float, I'd rather it barren as strawberry float than taking strawberry floating ages to load like that thing does.

The Wii U doesn't even take all that long to load. Are people really this impatient?

Yeah, Skyward is listed twice, but still... the U really is a home for Zelda titles!

Bit of a bump here, but the LOCKDOWN has got me looking at my Wii U/Wii setup again. Does anyone know of a reliable charging dock for the wiimotes/gamepad? Seems like every one I try works for a month or two and then just dies :dread: My current one is meant to charge the gamepad and two remotes but the remote-charging section doesn't work at all. The lights change colours to indicate it's charging, but they don't :fp:

Completed ZombiU last weekend for the first time. A really underrated gem. It has great atmosphere and makes fantastic use of the game pad, it’s a shame that so few people got to enjoy it.

I’ve been on a real Wii U kick recently. Finally finished Windwaker on it and Super Mario 64 DS too. It’s ridiculous how much better the WiiU virtual shops is to the Switch.

Anyone have seriously crummy wii u gamepad battery life? Before the lockdown was playing Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and the pad lasted about 20 mins on full charge.

Unfortunately it gets bad both the more you use it and the less you use it. If you leave a small li-ion battery at 100% charge or 10% charge for a long time it loses longevity, same if you use it plugged in all the time.

Need to leave li-on batteries at about 30-40% charge when not in use to preserve their life, you also need to unplugs them when they hit 100% and ideally never let them discharge fully.

If you stop using the device for a long time or go through say 1000 charge cycles, it starts to go crap.

Good news is it's easily replaceable!

Yes, but it's expensive on eBay, at least the official one.
