The first draft was "the smell is stuck in my throat and I can't get it out", but I got distracted and when I finally went to submit I had got the smell out so I didn't want to lie to you all.
Full disclosure: I've asked for this to be locked.
As OP, it's technically my call to make, and I appreciate it's not one everyone would want or agree with, particularly given the fact that the recent poll on the subject indicated that a majority weren't against the continuation of the thread (and indeed, nobody outright called for its discontinuation!)
However, the sheer weight of people who voted against has been on my mind since. I am concerned, rightly or wrongly, that the thread is inhibiting or deterring posting elsewhere, or at the very least, making some people uneasy or "tread lightly" regarding posting normally. And I don't like that.
I think it's fine, if there is demand for it, for the concept to continue in a new thread - four years and nearly 200 pages is as good a time as any to start fresh, anyway - with a new OP, and perhaps a clearer set of mutually agreed parameters; maybe making it clear that only those who opt in should be quoted, or that post authors be anonymised, or whatever. Because this thread, as funny as I think it has at times been, doesn't discriminate for consent, and that's not a great place to be - not everyone wants to be made out to be [diplomatic language]humorously rude[/diplomatic language], or wants an online "paper trail" that suggests they've been making innuendos for several years on a public website.
Cheers all xx
