Late to the party on this and now about 3 shows in. strawberry floating hell this program is incredible, BBT is just jaw dropping.

Oh yah, BBT truly is.
I watched this on Netflix and so I don’t know if the Channel 4 broadcast included this, but at the start of some episodes there was a little recap of previous events. Instead of saying “previously on Fargo” they said “erstwhile on Fargo”. A little thing but it made me laugh every time.

Finished watching this last week, excellent stuff. Billy-Bob Thornton is such a great villain. Has he ever been an actual good guy in anything? Not seen loads of his work, but everything I have seen of his he plays such a dislikeable character. And plays it brilliantly.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with the next season. Would love to see one in the 20s or something.

Finished this up earlier. Pretty bloody incredible. Don't need to say it, but BBT is amazing. Feels like the tone of the show shifted a lot as it went on, almost to the point where I didn't feel like I was watching the same thing. In the beginning you had pretty much bang on Coen brothers black comedy/drama with that underlying menace, but it slowly lost the humour (especially after the year jump and just started brimming with tension and malice.
Is this actually meant to be in the same universe as the film? It surely can't be, because of Lester, but on the wikipedia it says it's set in the same universe. And also apparently season 2 will focus on the Sioux falls incident. The director said:
"I like the idea that somewhere out there is a big, leather-bound book that's the history of true crime in the Midwest, and the movie was Chapter 4, Season 1 was Chapter 9 and this is Chapter 2,"
Which seems odd if it's meant to be a re-imagining.
Feels like we're in such a golden age of brilliant TV right now. So many utterly top-tier shows on at the minute, and there's loads of big amazing changes with Netflix putting whole seasons up at once, and these anthology shows like this and True Detective.
Edit: It just dawned on me that Martin Freeman's character isn't meant to be the same person as William H Macy's. Mind partially blown.

2 people have been cast for Season 2 -
Fargo has filled two big roles for season 2. Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man franchise, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights) have landed series regular roles in FX’s Emmy-winning crime thriller.
In addition, FX announced the second season won’t premiere until next fall and will once again consist of 10 episodes.
Dunst will play Peggy Blomquist, “a small town beautician with big city dreams who is trying to figure out who she really is and what she really wants as she struggles with traditional societal expectations. She shares her home with her husband Ed (Plemons), a butcher’s assistant, who wants to be supportive of his wife’s self-discovery, even if he doesn’t quite understand it.”
Fargo surprised skeptics with a thoughtful and witty crime story that arguably managed to improve upon the Oscar-winning 1996 Coen brothers film that served as its inspiration. The show was nominated for 18 Emmy Awards and won the prize for outstanding miniseries.
Like HBO’s crime anthology True Detective, a show that’s often perceived as Fargo‘s rival, season 2 will tell a completely different story with a new cast. Unlike True Detective, however, Fargo‘s setting is expected to be somewhat similar and the crimes will have a direct connection to the first season.
Season 2 is essentially a prequel and is set in 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota. The story will focus on a young Lou Solverson (not yet cast) — Molly’s father, played by Keith Carradine in the first season, who teased to a harrowing case he experienced while working as a state police officer. In the new season, Solverson is a 33-year-old Vietnam War veteran.
“He thought he left the war behind, but he came back and here it is, it’s domestic,” showrunner Noah Hawley told EW in July. “We will meet Molly’s mother, who was not a character in season 1 … and we’ll learn what happened to her. There were a lot of clues left in the first season and we’ll do our best to hit those.”
Other major open roles include Solverson’s wife, Betsy, their four-year-old daughter, Molly, and fellow officer, Ben Schmidt.
Jeffrey Donovan is packing his bags for “Fargo,” and Nick Offerman could be joining him.
“Burn Notice” star Donovan is nearing a deal to join the second season of FX's anthology series “Fargo,” while “Parks and Recreation” star Offerman has an offer to join the cast, though he's not currently in negotiations, multiple individuals with knowledge of the castings told TheWrap on Wednesday.
Donovan, whose credits also include “Crossing Jordan” and “Law & Order,” has been cast in the role of Dodd.
The second season of the adaptation of the Coen Brothers’ iconic film will also feature Rachel Keller, who will play the role of Simone in the Noah Hawley-created series. Relative newcomer Keller also stars in the comedy “Hollidaysburg,” opposite Tobin Mitnick.
In addition to the castings of Donovan and Keller, another individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap that Mike Bradecich (“Mighty Med”) and Allan Dobrescu are also in contention for roles in the series, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman in its first season.
Should Offerman join the cast, he would play the role of Carl. With “Parks and Recreation” preparing to enter its final season, “Fargo” would be an enticing proposition, though he has not yet made up his mind about signing on for the series.

More people cast for Season 2 -
Fargo is filling out its second season cast with a bevy of well-known and award-winning talent: Ted Danson, Patrick Wilson and Jean Smart are joining the crime anthology in series regular roles, and several other actors are joining as recurring characters.
Wilson (Insidious) will star in the new season Lou Solverson, a clean cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. He’s described as “a humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband to his wife Betsy (yet to be cast), and father to four-year-old Molly (yet to be cast). This is the same character played by Keith Carradine in the first season.
Danson (CSI) will play Hank Larsson, the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. He’s “an unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou’s father-in-law.”
Jean Smart (Frasier) will play Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. “She’s stood by her husband’s side for 40 years, but now that he’s out of the picture she thinks it’s her turn to run things.”
In addition, Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeffrey Donovan and Angus Sampson have been cast in recurring guest-star roles. And if that weren’t enough, there’s also a previously announced married couple who have key roles played by Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons.
The 10-episode second season goes back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota. Here’s a new extended description of the season from FX:

The investigation will lead them to a colorful cast of characters that includes “Karl Weathers” (Nick Offerman), the town lawyer of Luverne, Minnesota. A Korean War vet, Karl is a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist. Three-time Emmy winner Brad Garrett will play “Joe Bulo,” the front man for the northern expansion of a Kansas City crime syndicate. The new face of corporate crime, Joe’s bringing a Walmart mentality to small town America. His number two is “Mike Milligan” (Bokeem Woodbine). Part enforcer, part detective, Mike is always smiling – but the joke is usually on you. Bulo and his crew have their sights set on the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, currently led by matriarch “Floyd Gerhardt” (Smart). With her husband at death’s door, Floyd takes over the family business, frustrating her eldest son, “Dodd Gerhardt” (Jeffrey Donovan). An impatient hothead with a cruel streak to match his ambitions, Dodd can’t wait for both his parents to die so he can take over and expand their business from kingdom to empire. “Bear Gerhardt” (Angus Sampson) is the middle son, an intimidatingly large man who, although inarticulate, is the most decent of his clan. “Rye Gerhardt” (Kieran Culkin), the youngest of the Gerhardt clan, views himself as a big shot, but in reality he’s just a small dog who barks big."
Obviously Lou's wife will get killed during whatever goes on. I'm sure it'll be suitably tragic.

How I Met Your Mother alumna Cristin Milioti is set for a role opposite Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson in the second installment of the Fargo miniseries franchise based on the cult Coen brothers movie. The 10-episode new chapter is set in 1979 in Sioux Falls, SD and Luverne, MN, where a young State Police Officer Lou Solverson (Wilson), recently back from Vietnam, will tackle an all new “true crime” case. Milioti will recur as Betsy, Lou’s (Wilson) wife and the daughter of Rock County Sheriff Hank Larsson (Danson). A woman of the plains — pretty but firm — she can both jump start a car and make a casserole, clean a gun as well as the gutters.
