Countless games coming out on PSVR doesn’t signal that.

I don't feel it has really breached throught the off-putting nature of VR. Too many incidents of motion sickness, it isn't comfortable for long term play etc. I want to test it on NMS but I don't see myself playing 100s of hours of it in VR.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great experience, and PSVR is probably the best value experience in terms of price and functionality. It's just it still feels like it's in the tech demo stage to me, or something really expensive to play short mobile style games. It's great for showing off certain things to friends and family, but I don't think VR is suited to full high budget, long term experiences just yet. Maybe "failed format" is a bit harsh, but it hasn't really gained the traction in the mainstream that I was expecting and VR feels like it's on a slight downward trend at the moment.

Hopefully NMS will change that in my head at least.

Picked the physical copy of this up on PS4 for £9.99 ages ago, think now would be a good time to really give it a go.

Is all the new stuff intergrated into the start of the game now or is it one of those things where you need to complete a certain amount of game to experience the new updates?

Some of the changes will impact the early stages of the game (improved directions on first steps) and I feel that you're probably better off to hold off from starting the game until the new update arrives tomorrow, Milner.

I will be starting afresh, myself.

I think VR in general is sweet and as it becomes more affordable more will get it. I'm still amazed with Astrobot.

In terms of release timing the last update, Next, launched at 14:00 (UK) so there is a thought that Beyond could become downloadable at a similar time. I'm guessing that the update file size will be pretty large.

I'm ready to return to NMS.

I'm only a little way in, so I think I'll restart. It'll be interesting to replay from the beginning now I kind of understand how the mining/crafting/scanning works. Hope it's out early tomorrow as I have the day to myself.

I have a workstation graphics card (NVida Quadro K1200 4GB) but I read the main issue with these suboptimal PC games is CPU, which is 3.6Ghz 8-thread Xeon and 8GB RAM, that might make up for it? I have to ask because none of the specs mention a setup like that. I could try a refund on Steam if it's bad but then I could just get it on PS4 - I don't want to pay for online shiz tho :shifty:

Yeah, the official specs are terrible, I think they only list a minimum, no "recommended" and it doesn't seem to have been updated to reflect the updates the game has had. The minimum CPU listed is "Intel Core i3".

The bottleneck for me is the CPU, but I am still running on an i5-2500k from 2011, so that's not a surprise, but this is still the only game I've tried to play where it's not been able to deliver a playable experience for me, so I've still not got much need to upgrade, unless I want to move into PC VR, especially as a new CPU means a new mobo and RAM as well.

Looking at the patch notes, it definitely sounds like there is a friendlier start for new players:

Missions and tutorials have been significantly revised. The early game has been streamlined and focused to better teach players new mechanics, particularly in VR.

New story content has been added to weave together the existing strands of the Atlas Path, the journey of the Space Anomaly, and the story of Artemis.

Substances, crafted products, new technologies and other curiosities are automatically added to the new Catalogue when first encountered. A rework of the Pinning system allows players to get detailed step-by-step instructions on how to find or build any item in their Catalogue.

Guidance features throughout the game have been dramatically improved, including auto-highlighting of relevant crafting requirements and better messaging of context in complex missions.

Oh, and...

Inventory limitations have been relaxed, allowing explorers to carry near-unlimited quantities of mined substances. The inventory UI has been revised and improved.

... :toot: .

Ah, just have the headset on before starting up the game! It's working! :toot:

Suprising little sickness even when flying... that time I spent with Ultrawings is paying off.

It feels great - somehow more natural for me than Skyrim VR. Literally only had 2 mins so started a new game, which was a very hostile planet. Quit and went for my saved game. Amazing to be inside the base I built!
