Brilliant stuff, Venom... it was great to see (and hear) your experience! I've only played the game a little in VR mode but I can relate to your feeling! I noticed that you've renamed your system as Venom Space :-)

The feeling of flying out into space and then looking back at the planet, it was a real moment of joy. Besides VR, the last time a game made me feel like that was the first time I played Wii Sports with the Wii motion controllers. Moving them in the air and it controlling the game was so magical. Obviously VR graphics are not as sharp as 2D but its beauty is that sense of presence that makes you feel you are in the environment. I certainly wouldn't be able to play the whole game in VR, mainly because of the menus and items not being sharp enough, but I think I will play in 2D with regular shorter VR sessions. Venom Space was semi-accidental!

My attention was then focused on making my first trip to a space station. This was cool as I could edit my appearance and then I teleported back to the base. It feels like I'm gonna get sucked right back into this game!

Building a base is always a great way to leave your mark. How do you switch to first person? I didn't know about space stations.

It could be fun to get a GRcade posse together but then I started thinking about the practicalities. Is it like when you are kid with your bike and you meet with the other neighbourhood kids on bikes? It seems like fun but you end up drifting along to different places. Sometimes to the park, sometimes to a sweetshop that sells edible paper. Sometimes to the back of an old warehouse area to make a camp fire. What would be good is in the next version you could enter other peoples games, even if they don't want you to, then become space pirates and rob them and destroy their base. Unless somebody else did it to you first.

That's interesting - that's exactly the opposite of what I would want to happen!

NMS seems like such a chill-out, exploring type game. To have your 'sandcastle kicked in your face' seems a bit out of the spirit of it.

But, I may just be being an old fart about this. I don't have online anyway!

My freighter is buggy as hell. I can’t walk into my storage areas, and the walls are glitchy as hell. Else, it just seems like the game I basically completed a few times. I think I’m done with it without VR.

My ground vehicle keeps going invisible which is a pain. It seems a bit gooseberry fool it destroys everything it rolls over but you get nothing for it, it would have been pretty cool to get the minerals.

Jumped into VR with Move on a new game last night. Not really played since the initial launch.

VR is great in this. With Move controls you can teleport or have it so that the same button is walk forward. Jumppack is fun but you land very hard in it, directing travel by where you point your right hand. I enjoy holstering and visor flicking behind your head too. The best thing is controls within the ship. By that I mainly mean pulling the ejectors to get out. Flying the ship with move controls is batshit crazy because you have to set the speed with one and joystick with the other. It takes a bit to get used to and you feel very out of control. I think my game aim would be to find a ship with the best cockpit view.

I'd be up for a GR meet on this.

I find the flying controls very odd, and pretty unplayable. What they should have done is have the left move horizontal left to right and the right one upright. Then you can't just pull the triggers anywhere to make those controls active, rather than the current system of having to move the controllers to the in game ones and manipulate from there, becuase they're burried in my lap.

I can't get the hang of powering up my base. I ended up with cables in the wrong place, so started to delete them and deleted my portal. :x

Had to go back to a previous save.

Yeah, it takes a while to understand how the bits are placed and where the connection points are, Lime. I, too, wasn't happy with where my power unit and portal were positioned and so I deleted them... thinking that I'd get the resources returned to my inventory but I don't *think* you do. They're built again now but I think I want to re-position them :fp: .

Seriously, I'm treating this game as NMS: Happy Home Designer  .

New updates are out.

I found a bone plant, slight problem, its strawberry floating hot and has heat storms over 136C, oh and aggressive sentinels. strawberry float. All I want to do is make a bit of cash.

So...I presume I’ve hit a big bug but basically dude just stops running... like I’m pushing forward and he just stands there, and then he’ll randomly start moving and then stop again, the camera, even the options freeze up, it’s maddening. I loaded up Rage 2 to see if my Xbox was dying and that was fine.

If you like Minecraft you'll probably like this. Regarding your bug, I've never heard of that one. Is it possible to load a previous build? Otherwise you might just have to look online if others have had the same issue.

There is a new update out tomorrow called Synthasis which brings in a lot of QoL updates.

One thing is better terrain editing.

The next update, "Living Ship", arrived this week.

Regardless of the (perfectly legitimate!) differing viewpoints on the game at launch, it feels hard to fault Hello Games on how the game has been developed and enhanced since then; I feel that it is now in a position where the offering has, in some ways, exceeded even those initial high expectations.

Three-and-a-half years of free updates that have delivered significant additions and improvements; and there are more on the way. In an age where we often - with good cause! - criticise developers, it feels right to now say "well played" to Hello Games.
