That stance is now live, man. Twenty-four days and no new games 8-) . Have got one or two planned for Feb, though :shifty: .

Yeah, the planet my base is currently on (and the surrounding planets) all seem to have become toxic areas after the last update. I prefer just having a wander around on pleasant green hills  .

Started a new game... the opening planet was frozen with barely any resources - but plenty of viscious animals :fp: . Spent half-hour trying to collect non-existant materials whilst slowly being killed off by frost. Re-re-starting now... :shifty: .

Back into the game and I'm now using my original game save.

I tried re-starting because i wanted to familiarise myself with the controls and gameplay, and I was surprised at just how tough it is in those early stages; way more difficult than i remember. I think the updates for the game have been excellent but, for new players, I think it would help to start on a world where you're not freezing or boiling to death every two minutes. The game is far tougher than it was and I'm not sure if I am keen on this; I like to earn stuff but the game now has so many different things to collect, craft and maintain that it can be a bit bemusing. There is a new mode that grants infinite stuff (health and materials) but that may take away too much of the challenge. Anyway, I'm back to my original game save and hopefully I'll get up to speed as I re-learn the approaches to take.

I'm enjoying it, though. The use of colour and light in the game truly is marvelous.

Picked this up in Tesco for £6 on Friday. Probably worth checking your local if still on the fence. Should be up to version 1.5 by the time I get onto this.

Yes?

It's definitely a lot tougher, but as long as you manage your inventories well you can get back up to speed relatively quickly. I like how ships now have genuine differences beyond larger hull capacity. I recently traded up to a Star Fighter Special class with 22 slots. It's very nippy in a fight and deals gooseberry fool loads of damage. Entering a space battle I took down ten enemy ships on my own. Great fun.

Absolute bargain at that price, Deaths - I've never felt bad about paying full price at launch, but it is a marmite game. If you like exploring and just checking things out, whilst juggling and crafting numerous things, it's ace... but I can see why it wouldn't suit some folk's tastes.

Even the visuals seem to cause a love/hate divide. To me, the range of colour and the use of light creates really evocative scenes - I could spend hours in the photo mode! - but others point to the simple designs as being weak.

You're gonna either be addicted to it or using it as a coaster :-).

Yeah, at launch the game was realatively simple and, starting out, you had time to learn the ropes and get into the "collect and maintain" cycle. Now it's more BLAM! boil or freeze in the next two minutes so get a move on!.

Sounds cool, man. I think I still have a fairly small ship - I'll check out the slots next time I load it up.

I preferred the more challenging start. It gave the fact that you just woke up on a planet next to a crashed star ship and with no memory of previous events so much more urgency.

Yeah, that's a good point and I think it may suit most folk. I like the "let's wander around and just look at stuff" approach... perhaps I should try the creative mode  .

Big update this summer (they haven't said what it is yet) and it's coming to Xbox One too.

Launching on Xbox one this summer

I had assumed this was an in-house Sony game so I haven't been following it at all since the disastrous launch. Better game these days?

I'm intrigued to see what this update will deliver. The update of last summer made major enhancements to the game and, if this pack is similarly expansive, it could be pretty interesting. Personally I will be eager to jump back in and find out!
