Nah, it's just been seen as a very niche thing. I am with you when it comes to landing on a planet.

I dont know why, but that sounds strawberry floating incredible.

Can you really argue that nobody's made a proper science fiction game yet? "Not one that matches my view of what science fiction is," says Murray. "My view is what I grew up with, which is book covers - that's what I picture as science fiction. Often quite colourful, quite vibrant, quite exciting to look at. A mixture of all the authors you can think of, Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, but also Chris Foss, the actual artist behind them. That's how I picture those worlds.

"There are films like Star Wars that capture a little piece of that," he admits. "In games we tend to focus on the darker side of it. Dark skies and grey spaceships and space marines. But that for me is more science fantasy, I guess. The kind of worlds we deal in in video games are not the kind of worlds you'd want to explore. The kind of science fiction we grew up with doesn't exist here, and we want to create those landscapes. We want to create that feeling and that emotion, and that sense of wonder. What we wanted to get across was a kind of frontiersmanship. A sense of mystery. A future that has a history."

...

He folds his arms. "So is four people enough?" he asks. "Maybe not, but I know a few things that I've been thinking about recently, I know that when I was working at EA, if I'd pitched this game, we'd have said it was too ambitious, we'd have said it requires more than 100 people. In fact, you couldn't schedule it out.

"I think it's actually only a small team that would make a game like this. I couldn't picture the kind of mindset that would be involved to undertake it at EA or whatever. It wouldn't be a very easy sell. I don't think it would get off the ground. It's only a small group that would be stupid enough to try to do it."

The whole thing is worth a read. It's partly similar to the RPS write-up but also has contributions from other members of The Four.

Holy gooseberry fool, that gif on the first page is amazing. And I've always wanted to break the atmosphere of a planet in a game. Looks astonishing.

There are some proper planks out there. It's too ambitious for four people! And, I swear, in the same breath... No multiplayer?!

Even more than landing, I've always wanted to crash. How amazing if I could then, after arduous repairs, take off again...

Am I too hyped about this? I really can't wait! Wonder if I'll need to upgrade my rig?

I loved space sim games when I was growing up, and I always wanted a game where I could visit the planets that simply made up part of the background image. Optimistic. :)

Nope. :P

Hopefully this will be a bit less buggy though!

After reading the interviews I'm even more hyped for NMH. It's like the devs have reached into my mind and decided to make my perfect game.

You can blame MS if it doesn't turn up on Xbone.

Murray didn't want to give too much away but was clearly very excited to finally announce No Man's Sky and talk about it. "The game, right now, runs on off-the-shelf high-end PC and it runs on a next-gen console." Murray wouldn't disclose anything else about platforms but did say development of No Man's Sky is "further along than what the trailer would lead you to believe."

Hello Games haven't signed up to ID@XBOX which apparently you need to do if you want to self publish. MS offers some great benefits if devs do sign-up, but there's also a massive drawback...

I love this quote
Sean: If there is a thing that we’re doing, that I think we’re doing well, it is that we have built this from a – this is going to sound really wanky and Peter Molyneux-esque – but from a real atomic standpoint.

Definitely a game worth keeping an eye on. Thanks for the heads-up.

100% it will be on the Xbox one. The hype behind this one is real.

It would be stupid move from MS and the Devs to go exclusive.
