I reckon they still make some decent sales with each big update and/or sale

The first previews of No Man's Sky's new VR mode are coming in.

gamesradar wrote:...strapping on a headset and diving into the world of No Man's Sky was a breathtaking experience. Like, it literally took my breath away; as I was pulled out of the headset after 20 minutes of pottering around on a planet, excavating ruins, exploring caves, and blasting out into the cosmos (against the advice of Murray, I must add) I found myself desperately pulling air back into my lungs in an effort to process it all. If you're a fan of the aspirational science-fiction written in the seventies – of the worlds born out on creased book covers that you stumble across in dusty corners of old book shops, the kind that has forced generations to dream of a life off in the stars – then it's hard not to be left in awe of the experience. For me, this is the promise of virtual reality made real, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that many of you will feel the same way...

Oh boy, I am so excited to try this out! Even so, it's worth noting that:

gamesradar wrote:...if you don't like No Man's Sky now you probably aren't going to have your mind changed by its virtual reality presentation...

There's are lots of impressions arriving that are based upon the PC VR version but I haven't seen views of the PSVR format yet. I hope that it's just as impressive!

I've had a long break from NMS, but can't wait to try it in VR. Might hop in over the next few days and mess around with base building before it drops.

I've just spent the last couple of hours (at work, don't tell my boss :slol: ) reading through this thread from the very start, charting my initial boarding of the hype train, enjoying the game and then the slow descent into full-on despising it and lambasting it - quite the journey for me

HOWEVER - I can see that Hello Games have put in a ton of work to improve and update the game in the months/years since release. I've still got the game in my library, I'm quite tempted to re-install it (and the countless patches and upgrades :dread: ) and give it another go to see just how different it now is from the launch version.

What do you reckon, has it changed enough to convince this former acolyte to return? Are it's foundational flaws still there?

Digital box art, or... art for a re-release?

No Man's Sky: Grit

A small and unlikely team was behind one of the most ambitious and anticipated games of 2016. In this 2019 GDC Main Stage session, Hello Games' Sean Murray takes us behind the scenes during the intense and dramatic launch of one the biggest selling new IPs in recent years. He demonstrates how his team found the grit to deal with releasing an innovative and polarizing game into an increasingly vocal gaming landscape, and details how through determination and love in 2019 they have built to record player numbers and positivity amongst their most negative detractors. This candid and open discussion will show the power of focusing on what you do, rather than what you say, in the face of adversity.

I tried starting again last week and it's still too much of a chore having to mine virtually every resource in the game. They've even made it harder to buy the suit upgrades. It feels like they could really do with streamlining that aspect.

Before the VR comes out, I want to get the first few hours done as I can't be doing with quite so many chores in VR.

I don't know what's been changed in the last 6 months, but when I was playing from around July to September, you could buy almost everything from the ships that land in the space stations.

Looking forward to the revamp of the multiplayer, and hope they give more info soon. I never had anyone join my games when I played, just the same 'instance' thing where they show up as orbs.

It's been available in the PS Store for under £20 on nine occasions since launch; and on four of those times it has been available for around a tenner. It hasn't been discounted so far in 2019, though - maybe an effect of the cumulative free updates.

It generally goes on sale when they put out a new update. I paid £15.99 back in 2017.

Edit: It's finally gotten more positive reviews than negative reviews on Steam.

Is my game broken? I am doing the Traveler quest line and was supposed to get the scientist to build a Mind Arc. I built the science station on my freighter and the scientist just didn't want to talk to me, so I built it again on a planet but the scientist just wants me to do other quests that don't seem to be related to the mind arc.

Do I just have to finish all these quests or is the game bugged?

Pedz, it's now on sale at £15.99 in the PS Store. Might be worth grabbing ahead of the next update?

Keen to give this a goin VR. I continued on my first save when trying the other updates and I found it incredibly confusing, so I'll be starting a fresh save for this.

Yeah, last time I played I started a fresh game. To be honest, so many of the gameplay mechanisms had changed that it's probably just as well to start again.

Beyond will contain three major updates rolled into one larger free release. These changes are a mix of features we’ve been dreaming of for a while, and a reaction to how we have seen folks playing since the release of NEXT.

An expanded Online experience will bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.

Meanwhile VR support will bring the entire game experience to life in virtual reality. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your VR peers. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.

Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks, there’s a bunch more to talk about and can’t wait to join you in playing August 14th.
