“So,” I hear you ask. “It’s a rhythm game?”

It’s actually an action game with a unique twist! It plays similarly to, say, Kingdom Hearts or Devil May Cry. While everything that happens on screen is deeply tied with the music, you can attack, jump and move freely; You are not required to follow the beat, but if you understand the relationship between the enemy attacks and the music, you will gain an advantage in combat!

I am a fan of the Psychonuats-esque aesthetic however what I have seen of it doesn't look particularly engaging.

So I've only played the first hour or so of the game but I'm not very impressed so far.

The art direction is insanely good, like, more stylish than Persona 5, but everything around it feels half baked.

It's by no means buggy or anything, it's just little things like a lack of feedback when you do certain actions or animations missing where you feel there should be some.

Also it kind of plays like a PS2 game.

Image a less polished Jack and Daxter with the most basic platforming you've ever seen and you get the idea.

I'm hoping it picks up but it doesn't seem like it will.

This seems like the kind of game where if they make a sequel it will be absolutely amazing, hopefully that happens

Does it use songs made for the game, or music from actual bands and musicians?

All original stuff, thought no vocals so far.

As a comparison I'd say Sayonara Wild Hearts Music is a 10/10

This is probably around a 6

They've mad the music dynamic depending on how the fight is going, but other games like Metal Gear Rising and DMC5 have done similar things, but their songs are way better

EDIT: Actually having played a bit more the music does pick up a bit, and there are vocals, probably a 7 for the music so far

So just some follow up thoughts, I ended up trading this in, simply because the music was underwhelming, yeah the gameplay was VERY half baked but the visuals and characters.were good, so I think this game could have been good had the music held up the gameplay more

The only battle where I thought "this is a banger!" Was this one

Coincidentally it also had the most engaging and interesting boss. I expected the rest of the bosses to have some good tunes as well but they were all far too ambient, which is not want you want in a music focused game, especially one with weak gameplay.

Literally every other boss sounded like this:
