Oh man, those pond puddings.

Sad to see Mark go, but it's probably the right choice at this point. Really pleased to see Hermine get star baker, and Laura really redeeming herself after last week.

Peter looked a bit rattled again, but just about did enough to hold it together. Wonder how he'll handle the pressure of a semi final.

Having watched Australian Masterchef for a good few years back in the day I think it's probably a mixture of the two:

First series: unknown as a show but still lots of applicants. You get a series worth of decent cooks and throw some mad gooseberry fool like a Croque-em-bouche at them and watch them lose it.

Next few series: loads more applicants with a big pool of great cooks who get more savvy with every series so the producers have to challenge them more and more.

Later series: you've already had dozens and dozens of the best cooks in the country enter the competition, so that cream at the top of the auditions gets thinner every year. These cooks are probably at the limit of what you can learn without actually getting a job in a professional kitchen, but the audience wants more and more outlandish tasks for the spectacle. Therefore the cooks look worse even though they're probably a lot better than the original crew.

Oh, and the middle of that pond pudding looked like when you have a curry and see a really massive bit of chicken hiding away in the corner of the container. You're really excited but when you spoon it up it's a bit of lemon :x

The world's most boring man is going to win isn't he?

Laura is the most undeserving finalist ever, she's like a gooseberry fool football team that always somehow manages to survive relegation every year.

Probably the three most boring finalists for a long time.

Laura is at least entertaining, I can't even remember the name of robot baker.

Laura has been winging it all the way through and seemed to make just as many mistakes as Hermine tonight; wouldn't be surprised if she wings the final too.

Lottie should have been here though. :x

Fuming.

Laura's had so many second chances, can't believe they opted to boot Hermine.

I’ve not watched too much of this series but Laura seems to be a shock to see in the final, I did watch it tonight and she really didn’t do great in the first 2 rounds either..... Far from its best series anyway.

I thought it was between Peter and Hermine to win it.

I hope Dave doesn't win, he seems boring and has nothing about him, I quite liked Peter at the start but not too bothered about him now. Might be worth Laura winning just to witness the aftermath.

If we're being real, Peter totally deserves it. He is boring, irritating, twee, but has been the best baker of the season, aside perhaps from Hermine (RIP).

Laura has no business being in the final 6 or 7, let alone the final 3. She's been hanging on for dear life for what, the last 5 or 6 episodes? It's a complete joke.

I can only root for Dave at this point because I have no feeling about him whatsoever. He's just... Dave.

In the preview for the final, Laura says "it hasn't set" as most of her bake falls onto her table. So it looks like she's gonna win.

This is the problem with this competition as a whole. It's not one whole competition, it's 10 individual, exclusive competitions, and until the final, every competition is looking for the worst baker to kick out, that is, what the bakers should be aiming for is to simply not be the worst as opposed to being the best. Ofc the best is awarded Star Baker, but that means nothing in the grand scheme of things, as is proved by this semi-final.

Noel said it himself during the discussion before results, Laura has been clinging on all the way through. Hermine has had star baker twice and has always been within the upper echelon of the competition. But one ever so slightly bad week and that's it. It doesn't matter what happened before because each 'round' is its own inclusive event.

It definitely seems that there's a lack of consideration as to how said person has done over the course of the competition.

That said the way baking is some people can be good at cakes but terrible at bread and vice versa.

However clinging on week after week yet getting to the final shows that there's something not quite right in the judging. Unless she's knobbing Paul Hollywood of course.

I know that, but it presents a problem considering they choose when to apply this methodology and to whom, there have been some very obvious occasions in the last few years where the decision has not been based on what you've outlined.

Oh no yeah, the whole thing's completely strawberry floated, don't get me wrong lel. Hence why I lead with "it's a problem"
