Yeah it was Stephs to lose and she had a disaster. David was the more consistent of the other 2 over the course of the series so I think the more deserving baker won. Good series overall, there turned out to be some decent characters in there and Im really starting to like Noel and Sandys little skits.

Has there ever been a winner that didn't receive the Star Baker award even once?

Steph really fell apart when it mattered most. There's no question that over the 10 weeks she deserved it more than David, but it only seems to come down to the showstopper of the very last round that actually matters.

As far as I know in the final they look at everything from throughout the series to pick a winner but it would be completely devalue the final if Steph had won when she had that bad of a performance.

She capitulated. Shocking performance when it mattered most.

I'm not that into Bake Off but I've seen bits of this season and the final, and I did feel terrible for Steph. I guess she either cracked under pressure or maybe just had some really bad luck.

I'm just glad Alice didn't win, she was incredibly annoying.

Is it weird that I love GBBO but hate baking/cooking and am not all that fond of cakes, pastries and stuff?

Same. Pie week is my fave and I like the curries, cheese dishes and heavily chocolate flavoured dishes, but the other sweet treats often don't appeal to me.

I didn't love the contestants this year. It seemed a shame when Dan from South Yorkshire got sent home week one over that teenager that literally couldn't cook. Helena and Henry were good and I thought Rosie was nice though the rest of the contestants seemed to shun her. Beyond that though everyone (apart from Steph, bless her) seemed really smug. And MichIMFROMWALESelle couldn't get through a single senIMFROMWALEStence without cooing going on about Wales.

I have only watched the show since it moved to 4, but this was my least favourite series so far, simply because I couldn't really root for any of the contestants. I particularly disliked Michael, who seemed determined to make everything about him, always.

At least Sandi and Noel are great.

I haven't really watched it since it moved to Channel 4, not really sure why.

I can’t remember when I started watching it, think I might have started with the last season on the beeb? I’d say this season has been the least memorable for me so far, I didn’t really take a shine to any of this years contestants.

They had a disaster of a weekend. I had them pegged to win until that shocker.

I think the right contestant won, given performance over the series and the final.

I quite like the show on C4, and I think I prefer Noel and Sandy to Mel and Sue. My biggest issue is how long the episode runs when you watch it live, so I've taken to watching it after recording it and skipping the ads.

I did read something about this series before though, which I agreed with. It seems harder and meaner than it used to be. Some of the bakes they were asked for were incredibly difficult, I'm sure I saw that cake they had to cook in layers under a grill on an episode of Bake Off Professionals. Also some of the judges comments seemed harsher than I remember, describing bakes as horrible and so on, plus the agoriadol contestant being used as a constant threat that 2 might be leaving at any time all the way through the first half of the series felt cruel. Why not just let the final be a 4 way bake, or have an additional round?

This series definitely featured far harder technic challenges.

Were you gutted to see Mark go too? I think all the contestants are significantly more likeable this year than last, but Sandi > Matt L

Yeah I liked Mark, but it wasn't his day. Lottie is my favourite.

I actually like Matt Lucas! I find his mannerisms and the way he looks instantly funny. He's a real clown. He looks at the contestants as if he's from another planet trying to understand their ways. He seems to be working well with Noel as well.

Loved this week's episode with Paul constantly dropping in that he's been to Japan so is an expert on Japanese culture and cuisine.

I do love Sandi and the vibe she gave off when she was interacting with the bakers, but I really like Matt's more chaotic energy too, and I think he and Noel work much better together. You can really tell they enjoy working with each other.

I've been watching. Was also very sad to see Mark go, but it was a tough week to call.

I reckon the Scottish lad who's name I've forgotten is going to be the winner in the end, but we've not really seen him stressed yet, except for a little this week, so he could still crumble.

Overall a really nice bunch of contestants this year, and the mix of challenges has been good, so enjoying it so far.

I don't really know about Matt Lucas. He fits in fine, but I don't know if he plays off Noel as well as Sandy did, as they both seem to play the same surrealist stick, so they're both kind of interchangeable.

Having watched the programme where he went to Japan, and spent the entire time saying "I didn't even know they did bread, I thought they just ate rice," I really hated being reminded that he'd been.
