PostOffice Chair Recommendations?
by Lagamorph » Wed Apr 15, 2020 5:18 pm

So with now working from home every day I've decided I need a new office chair for my home office. The current one I've got is one of those gamer chairs and for a while now it's been a bit busted, even with the tilt lock on it still tilts back by around 45 degrees.

Are there any decent, comfortable office chairs that someone can recommend? Would ideally like one that will let me lean back in it whilst still sitting pretty upright, but have the option of tilting back. Also hoping for something more full length so with a head rest, and if at all possible comes in at under £200.

Tbh, it’s hard to do better than those racing style gaming chairs for that budget. Maybe just replace it with a new one.

How comfortable is it? I'd be using it for a mixture of Gaming and day to day working.

That IKEA one is basically same as Markus without leather/PU, I bought one for £25 at charity shop but they generally go for £40. New they're around £150.

It reclines well but has enough weight to stick around when you're sitting on it, I put my feet up on my desk quite a lot (but then my desk is a conferencing table).

The lumbar support makes a big difference, also makes you notice more when you're slouching and self-correct.

For £200 you probably want more padding, but honestly mesh works well. I'm not convinced having basically a sofa chair is such a great thing, it can swallow you and get clammy, not great for work

I know this range goes (well) above the budget, but I bought a Secretlab chair about a month ago and it has been excellent. Extremely comfortable for an 8h seat (sometimes I dont even want to leave it!), great options and adjustability with support, full height, strong recline function... basically everything I wanted. Website here: https://secretlabchairs.co.uk/collections/all

They start at 299 - full disclosure, I bought the largest one (Titan XL - I just wanted a massive chair I could move about in through the day) with the software fabric (I don't like leather) at 449 minus promo discount of £25 off so £424 - but in terms of value for money, I definitely feel like it was worth the cost.

Just tried to order the Ikea one, but it looks like they won't deliver it. As far as I can tell they consider an Office Chair to be a two person delivery so have suspended deliveries of it, despite still listing it on the product page as "Available for delivery".

Unfortunately Ikea have completely removed the ability for anyone to contact their customer services so I'm unable to check.

Ok, that makes more sense. I’d still love to see a Herman Li chair though.

As a temporary measure I've managed to get work to send me an Office Chair for free, so just waiting on that to arrive and use until I can get my own.

Home office thread? Home office thread.

I've been using one of those portable laptop stands that you can either use sitting down on a sofa or turn into a stand up desk set up on a dining table.

It's far from ideal compared to the office set up of an ultra wide monitor plus laptop screen for essential a tri-screen set up and a proper office chair that doesn't get uncomfortable after 2 hours or sweaty (never buy a faux leather office chair, the mesh material is best) but it's a very cheap solution and works well enough.
