Wow.
Although it's 20 metres shorter, I still find the 'Guan Yin of the South Sea of Sanya' statue the most beautiful, for its design and its location.

I will be named forumite of the forever before that gets built.
If we can't manage to upgrade an existing airport without decades of fuss from nimby's and legal blocks there's no hope a new airport will get the go ahead.

Grim Communist Architecture returns, after a brief delay following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Add to that the likelihood of countless cut corners and poor materials and you've got a recipe for loads of deaths.
Sky City will be the tallest building in the world standing at 838m and the construction company Broad Sustainable Building say they will build it in 3 months, to put that in perspective that’s 5 floors a day!
Sky City will be located in the city of Changsha, Hunan in the south-central China. Construction will be begin at the end of this month and will be finished by the end of March 2013. The idea may seem impossible as the current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa took over 5 years to construct but Broad Sustainable Building have a pretty impressive track record having last year built a 30 storey building in 15 days and a 15 storey building in 6 days (YouTube link below).
Sky City will have a hotel able to hold 1,000 people, a hospital, 5 schools and offices and house up to 17,000 residents. Ohh and did I mention it will have 17 helipads basically making it a mini airport!

I wonder if they will face the same problem they have with the Burj Dubai where they don't have enough electricity creating capacity to have the building more than 50% occupied.

The building has been designed to be built pretty quickly, and China has a fuckload of cheap labour and the actual infrastructure to build sucha monstrosity as quickly as that. It's impressive, I'm not sure how long it will last though with people living in it, no doubt it's just there to waste time until they build something even bigger.
The weird thing about China is how disposable buildings are to them. Constantly knocking down and rebuilding. My girlfriend finds it odd that in the UK we buy houses that aren't new for so much

Does she not understand how much character and flair per-war buildings have and how strawberry floating bland and ugly most of the post-war stuff is? Not only that but new builds tend to be so poorly built, with corners cut everywhere (windows as small as they're allowed, etc).

I've seen it in a few places because the the air conditioning puts a huge demand on the system. I'm not sure if the system is fine now but occupancy is still nowhere near full yet.

Seriously, the shard is a piece of gooseberry fool. It's an embarrassment how much they are charging just to go up a gooseberry fool tier skyscraper.
