Finally starting the Brawn GP series on Disney, annoying Branson seems to talk like he was part owner of the team when he was just a sponsor? When he did own a team it was awful

Edit, Horner and Montezemolo come across as bitter bastards don’t they? enjoyed the first episode though.

He was just the sponsor then too.

The team was actually Manor.

Had his name in the team name and plastered all over the car rather than a few stickers, but still a title sponsor rather than an owner.

Tbf they were hamstrung by coming into the sport when there was supposed to be a budget cap to level the field and designing a car entirely in CAD.

Yeah, they (along with the Lotus/Caterham and HRT teams) were promised there'd be a budget cap to help them be competitive, but were actually conned as it never materialised.

They were massively hamstrung by that I agree. One thing they failed to get right from the off was the fuel tank size, think the only way they could do a full GP was running it in the leanest setting.

Watching the second episode of the Brawn GP series, I think Keanu was a brilliant choice. Horner and Montezemolo come across even more bitter after the double diffuser hearing didn’t go in their way.

Bernie stirring it as well saying that Jenson had a different spec to Rubens, it might well have been the case but I bet Bernie has no evidence other than “I said so”.

He never rated Button so likes to put him down through suggestion.

Button is never going to be in the top tier of drivers when ranking them, but on his day he was mighty, so many high points between 2009 and 2012, wonder if he changed his tune after Button beat Hamilton fair and square in 2011?

Suppose I best get around to drafting the 2024 thread, think the season recap will be remarkably dull considering it was just Red Bull and Verstappen winning 95% of the time :(

All being well, should be up on New Years Day or the 2nd at worst.

Surely the new thread will just be an image of some crossed fingers and the statement "Anyone but Verstappen" ?

I really hope any team can close the gap and make a championship of it, because no point hoping for Perez to make a challenge, he'll do well to see out the season.

Former Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran has died at the age of 56.

The Brazilian Automobile Confederation (CBA) said De Ferran suffered a heart attack at a private motor racing club in Opa-locka, Florida, on Friday.

In a statement, the CBA added he was "promptly taken to a local hospital but did not survive".

Since May, De Ferran had worked for Formula 1 team McLaren in a consultant advisory role, having previously served as sporting director from 2018 to 2021.

The team said in a statement: "Everyone at McLaren Racing is shocked and deeply saddened to learn we have lost a beloved member of our McLaren family.

"Gil was an important and integral part of our Racing team. He was a formidable force on and off track and made a lasting impact on everyone racing and working alongside him."

During his time as sporting director, De Ferran played an instrumental role in returning McLaren from the lowest point of their history in 2018 to finishing third in the constructors' championship in 2020.

The French-born Brazilian driver won the Indy500 in 2003, having previously won the 2000 and 2001 Champ Car World Series driving for Team Penske.

In 1992, he won the British Formula Three championship.

Fellow Brazilian and former F1 driver Felipe Massa said: "What sad news today. We lost a brother! Wonderful person and a legend in our motorsport world. Go in peace Gil."

CBA president Giovanni Guerra said: "On behalf of myself and the entire CBA family, we pray to God to receive our brother with all glory and to support his family, friends and millions of fans around the world."
