This is bad, even for Monaco standards. Russell going slow enough to make mediums last the whole race, and then the leader matching that pace because he doesn't want to open a free pit stop for the 3 cars behind him.

Even the McLaren mechanics look on the verge of having an afternoon nap.

The McLarens look so much nicer here than in their usual orange.

That's all I've got out of this race.

F1 always shoots themselves in the foot. To continue the race when they can go to the end without pitstops is insanity. Should have been a full restart. It's moronic they can go slower than GP2. Monaco needs a different spec car in my opinion, just for that race. Indy 500 kind of do it, it's really not difficult. They can talk about costs all they want, they make so much money as a series they could easily have a Monaco spec car.

Yeah I love it, amazing colour scheme. Obviously has the Senna connection, but also looks proper old school like the 93 Benetton.

Mercedes should pit Hamilton now.

I think they should bring the refuel pit back to make things interesting?

F1 cars should be flat out by now, but they aren't! Pathetic.

Hard to mandate a minimum speed, what they can mandate is pit stops and drivers not being allowed to change tyres (unless they’re damaged) at a red flag. It was going to be a god awful race before the red flag, but being allowed to change tyres destroyed the slim hope you have beforehand.

I'm not watching, I don't have Sky F1 any more, but what you're describing has happened a few times in recent years at Monaco. A driver settling for a certain position and seeing out the race at low pace with no fear of overtakes, to avoid pitting again.

It makes you wonder if there needs to be some kind of discussion about whether deliberately choosing to nullify a race is within the spirit of things. Not sure how they would police it though. Either that or increase the minimum number of pitstops to 2 or 3 at places like Monaco.

100% agree. It forces the teams and drivers to go flat out, then you get more mistakes, more actual racing.

The race leader is free to dictate the pace, if everyone wants to go quicker they can overtake them, but you can’t round here, which is why you only see these tactics turned up the max round Monaco.

Minimum pitstops for Monaco should be increased. That's a very simple thing for them to do.

This race is uniquely boring in that it was effectively nullified before one lap was completed. It's not an actual race at this point. Monaco normally gets to that stage around lap 30, not lap 1.

God damn it, of all the places for your tyre to come off, Stroll, the one place that isn't going to shake this race up.

Top 4 aren’t even going to need to pit, they’re going that slow :(

Hopefully Hamilton pitstop triggers more from those ahead.

Yeah, if George comes in, this race could actually get interesting.

Saying 6th and 7th pitting has changed the whole race potentially :fp:

This is such a crap way to win a Grand Prix :(

If Verstappen is gaining 2+ seconds a lap and is within 30 seconds of Leclerc with 19 laps remaining... They either are going to need to pit or pick up some speed. I'd have pitted Norris right after Verstappen personally.
