Old stuff that scared me as a kid that I love now.

So I figured that a lot of stuff I love now is stuff that used to scare me loads when I was young, so I thought id make a youtube video about it, most of its about films with a little bit about music and ending on a story about a video game that scared me, I thought some on here might like it and it might even get people chatting about things that once scared them that they now like.

Jaws

Watched it when I was about 9/10 years old when it first aired on British television. BBC I think? I remember the Radio Times having a huge feature on the film and great white sharks in general. My mother regretted allowing me to stay up and watch the film as it gave me nightmares for weeks.

Now it is one of my favourite films of all time. Holds up incredibly well even today. A testament to Spielberg's skill as a director.

Terminator 2. Just the fact that crazy people exist in asylums and do mad gooseberry fool to hurt people in desperate situations like holding a needle of bleach to the neck of a doctor to get out. Ended up working in a medium secure psych unit when I was 19.

999 with Michael Burke. The theme tune is terrifying. Went on to become an ambulance technician shortly after starting in psych.

Don't judge me, i was very highly strung and that creepy laugh at the end freaked me out. :oops:

I was utterly terrified of this as a toddler and would cry every time my mum played it. The album artwork also freaked me out.

Now I love it and consider it a classic .

I used to ask to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol all the time as a kid, but then find an excuse to leave the room when the Marleys came on. :slol:

One of my favourite films now, though, Marleys and all. :wub:

I got given the accompanying book for this episode a few years back as a joke as well.

I used to terrified at the Hulk TV series when I was young.

Never watched it since so can't say I love it now but recognise it probably wasn't that scary.

The Sugarpuffs adverts with a kid transforming into the Honey Monster terrified me when I was a child.

Back in 1989 BBC's feature length adaptation of Susan Hill's "The Woman in Black" gave everyone in our family nightmares for weeks. In fact, I still think it's more frightening than the more recent movie version with Daniel Radcliffe. This clip is out of context, but if you've seen it then it's a real brown trouser moment. As a young teen I promised to never watch it again. Now it's a firm favourite of mine for ghost stories.

Absolutely Ghostbusters 2. I watched it last night and was reminded how absolutely everything about that film terrified me when I was a sprog.

This scared the absolute bejesus out of me aged about 8. Hammer House of Horror: Evil has two faces.

Actually this still strawberry floating terrifies me so probably isn't relevant for this topic. I'm surprised I ever slept again as a kid after watching this.

Mars Attacks and Independence Day scared the living hell out of me as a six year old, now they’re camp, trashy classics.

In terms of things I genuinely love that frightened me as a kid, I think the Predator is probably at the top. I watched Predator 2 when I was maybe seven or eight and was genuinely, utterly terrified at the Predator’s face and ability to turn invisible.

In video game terms, I played Resident Evil 2 when I was 9 and it scared the strawberry floating piss right out of me, but now I consider it a top five classic.
